WTB - SA Road bike to suit very short women

Postby Sharpie » Mon Sep 07, 2009 8:28 am

Hi All

My wife is starting to ride more and now wants a road bike.

She is only 4 feet 10 inches, so I figure maybe has a junior roadie that their children may have grown out of? She's not going to grown out of it anytime soon. :D

I don't want to spend heaps but will pay what the right bike is worth if something comes up.

Hello Sharpie,
Have a Cannondale CAAD8 48cm, in new condition, as you
could see from photos, can send, would be suitable. $2,800 ono.
It is in Perth, so would have to make arrangements.
I am able to give more details by PM.
Let me know if it is/not suitable.
Cheers,
BrentonO

I'm also in the wrong state (WA) but I've got a small 650C (not 700C) Softride in the shed. You might keep an eye out for these are quite adjustable, both down and up.

You really do need to be looking at 650C (or smaller) wheels for someone that size - when I was 4'4"1/2 I rode a road bike with 24" wheels - unfortunately rare as hens teeth these days. There are a number of recent road bikes in 19" (48cm)/650C but your other half might still find that a little bit of a toes-on-ground challenge

What sizes have you tried so far?

One of the hardest things to find will be short-enough crank arms - 165mm is about as small as is commonly found, but your wife might manage with that.

Thanks for your help.

Even a 48 650c looked massive! I think she'll need a 44cm frame, she's just so small.

I knew this might be a challenge!

Go to your local bike club and see if they have a juniors program. Get a bike from them. There are always bikes being passed around and some of them are very small.

Sharpie,
Now selling Cannondale for $2,200
Sure it will suit your wife, as 48cm is the
smallest size available in the CAAD8 Optimo1
Thanks
