Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareBomberdon
No worries, I'm a newbie, also, and on the out, and I also know nothing about Campag seatposts, but don't worry, it won't take long and some "encyclopaedic" expert here will sort you out. Though it would seem, with all the expertise around here, I still can't seem to find out from any member, what constitutes the era of Vintage for cycle parts... even "god" does not know? Hope you enjoy your cycling. Cheers BrentonO Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareI've got a few odd Campag posts at home, most missing the clamps tho

Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareVintage cars are from the 20s and 30s. Vintage motor bikes are from the same era. Since the modern bike style (chain driven rear wheel) originated around the same time as cars and motor bikes, I'd say a vintage bike would be from around the 1920s and 1930s. I'm not fussy though - if you've got something more than 50 years old, I wouldn't complain if the word vintage was used in its description.
Happy? Think outside the double triangle.

Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareGraeme,
No, not happy, your opinion, doesn't make it so, even if you are "god"? And you have shown your knowledge, with regards to cars, by definition, vintage for cars is over 25 years, veteran is over 50. I had a Vintage '39 Ford Conv' Rod, I did up, so I might know a small amount about that, eh? That still doesn't apply to bicycle equipment, and have seen a lot of discussion on it, and have heard pre-STI quoted. Still like to hear from someone that might actually know something. Anyway, thanks for making some effort on it. I might be difficult, but at least I'm straight (no back-stabbing from me) Cheers BrentonO Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareCan someone plleeaaasssse put this thread out of its misery. If this was thread was an animal the RSPCA would have prosecuted those involved already!!

Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare
And you've shown (again) that you have no idea .. about anything a Vintage VK Commodore ![]()
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare
Amen Also, as per Wikipedia, Vintage is described as A vintage car is commonly defined as a car built between the start of 1919 and the end of 1930. There is little debate about the start date of the vintage period--the end of World War I is a nicely defined marker there--but the end date is a matter of a little more debate. ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vintage_car 25 years my ass
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareThankyou Spirito,
And your point is... you have 10 fingers and 10 toes, and you can't add over that. Holden Commodore / Calais VK Series March 1984 - March 1986 So, as at today, any car made before the 13th Novermber 1984, is Vintage. Thanks for the confirmation of what I said, and you showing your ignorance. Cheers BrentonO Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare
See my post above. 25+ years is not Vintage. QED.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare
So that would make the VB, BC and VH all vintage according to your theory. Dont think so. Same goes for XD and early XE falcs.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareMichaelB,
You didn't read the header in the Wiki article (conveniently) "This article needs additional citations for verification." Also, that's the States, and as most articles point out... "Different countries and states have their own laws and rules regarding vintage cars." http://www.articlesbase.com/classics-ar ... 26586.html When you have to deal with the Licensing People, in Australia, in each state, it will probably be differant, but I will let you know that I have dealt with them, and they certainly let me know. And what I stated was the facts, as I was told, and I leave that there. And just because you say "Bullsh*t" doesn't make it so. Keep smiling, and trying, maybe even buying..? Cheers, BrentonO Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare
Not from you I'm afraid. Can you prove by citation that 25+ is considered Vintage then ? I'd be interested in seeing that.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare
+1. Cant believe it all started from selling a $90-120* seatpost! *i am by no means commenting its real value. Rare, vintage, classic, ancient, biblical, prehistoric or otherwise.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareSomebody ought to let the Vintage Car Club (the Aussie one) know they are being too restrictive. None of their cars are younger than 1930 (except maybe the Model-T? ).
So, I take it you're proposing older than 25 years as being the limit? Great! I see vintage bikes lying averywhere on hard rubbish collection day. I could make an absolute killing if I pick up the junk and rebadge it as "Vintage" and "Rare". I've still got my (now vintage) Repco Cresta in the shed. I think it's value just tripled! (Provided I can get people to agree with your definition of Vintage. I think I might be a struggle though.) cheers, Graeme Think outside the double triangle.

Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare
pssst ... March comes before November. The VK was introduced in 1984. That makes it Vintage according to your brilliant synopsis. Just what did you represent Australia in?
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rarepersonally, i reckon vintage is anything before... go swallow your own head.

Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareI reckon this thread could make it to a full feature length movie...
Now who would star as Brentono?
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rare

Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rarekeep feeding the troll...
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareI wonder if my broken down VL Commodore Wagon will become classed as vintage upon it's 25th birthday, and thus a represent a more valuable non-functioning vehicle?
It has chrome (short) roofracks - I think they were pretty rare on that model. There's some cosmetic damage to the driver's side door and some more-than-cosmetic damage to the head. As an aside, can I propose that no-one ever, EVER, use wikipedia for ANYTHING? It's the comic sans of the academic world Enjoy your day. Dan EDIT: Small typo. I ride 25s on the basis that they divide more easily into 100 than 23s.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareFYI-here in WA where I am...
Vintage Automobile Association of Western Australia (Inc). states...The Committee and members of the Vintage Automobile Association thank you for your interest in our club, which, although called "VINTAGE", caters for all vehicles built 25 years or more ago. This club is open to all persons interested in enjoying the fun of motor cars of the veteran, vintage and up to the classic modern cars of today. - Providing of course that are more than 25 years old. http://www.vaawa.org.au/abouttheclub.html So if your car is over 25years old, come to WA and you can be a member. And if you wear clothes older than 1980, you can find out about your Vintage clothes, here... http://www.vintageclothing.com.au/ And this is all interesting, and quite OT, and doesn't answer, my original question, and what this is all about, Q? What is the official definition of Vintage Bicycle Parts. Now I don't want opinions, or what your mate told you, I need some reliable info. Is it that hard for the folk here to understand that (well the vocal ones, I mean) Thanks, BrentonO Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
Re: WTS:Perth: Campag Seatpost 27.2mm short-rareand yes, Yawn! it's getting pretty boring for me too...
"The extension of the Mitchell Freeway was opened in November with more than 50 vintage cars dating from the 1920s through to the 1960s keenly watched by hundreds of local residents. The project was delivered $10 million under budget." From our Main Roads of WA annual report '09, if you want to check it... http://www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/_layouts ... =2&RCN=D09 So to repeat what I said before, "Different countries and states have their own laws and rules regarding vintage cars." And that's the last word I have about Vintage cars, here in WA. Now feel free to chat about this some where else, if you don't have any info (links to the definition) on Vintage bike parts, or your not here to buy. Thanks, BrentonO Lone Rider- I rode on the long, dark road... before I danced under the lights.
