WTB (or beg) - Perth (or anywhere) - 7sp 700c rear wheel

Postby Kalgrm » Fri Nov 05, 2010 12:48 am

I've just been getting my brother into commuting by bike, sorting out the problems as we go along. Today, he broke a spoke in a light-weight wheel which is going to be difficult to replace. I think the wheel would be better replaced than fixed, so I'm after a 7 speed 700c wheel with a rim suited to a 23mm tyre. It should have 28 spokes or more.

Anybody in Perth have an older wheel lying around? I want to get him back on the bike on Monday. If anybody from outside Perth has one, let me know and we'll sort something out.

Cheers,
Graeme

I have 2 but I will have to check if they have any broken spokes. I'm not looking to offload them right now but I'm not using them either so someone else may as well.

Let me know if something else doesn't turn up and I can drop it over on sunday if you want.

as swapped in PM, my rims are a little wide for Graeme's needs.

Sorry I couldn't help, mate.

Just a quick thread bump for anyone else.....

... and an extra detail from me: My brother probably only needs the wheel for a few months. I'm guessing that by Christmas, the upgrade bug will have bitten badly and he'll be buying a new bike. Once that happens, I can return the wheel.

Cheers,
Graeme

I don't have any plans for my wheels before Christmas. I can bring both of mine around then and you can choose. I am going riding on Saturday morning but the rest of weekend is free for me. I just want to get in a beach swim so pick a time when I can go swimming on the way home

We should all just meet at a central location, bring our wheels and Graeme can take his pick

If you go down to the woods today
You'r'e in for a big surprise.

For ev'ry wheel that ever there was
Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the seven speeds have their picnic.

Oh god... time for me to go home...

Thanks guys.

Greg, I'll PM you first, since you have a pair to choose from. I'm pretty sure one of them will work for my brother. If not, I'll get back on here and let everyone know.

Cheers,
Graeme

For those of you who may be thinking my brother is ungrateful: not true. Something has happened to the forum's database and his name (and all posts) have been completely wiped off the forum. Weird ....

Must have been lost in the database crash on the weekend. I saw his posts and appreciated he took the time to say thanks. I hope the wheel goes as well for him as it did for me. I would just keep an eye on those spokes to make sure they don't loosen off again.

I had to true it again this morning for him. It had gone out of true. (It also has a small flat spot: have you been taking those jumps a bit hard? ;) )

Cheers,
Graeme

Pothole. I can tell you exactly where it is too. If it turns out to be too much work we might want to try the other one.

Nah, we'll work with it for a while yet. Like I said, it's a temporary solution in any case. Thanks anyway.

I just went to get petrol and it occurred to me that I should have just left both wheels with you since I won't be needing one until after Christmas. I swear my post-viral fatigue has reduced my IQ. I would hate to take an IQ test at the moment

Happy to help. I read your posts the first time round and appreciate that you took the time to drop by and say thanks. I also hope you are finding some of the hills a bit easier with that cassette. I know I did!

hi again.

to be honest, i don't find the hills any easier :-(

I think it is more my current state of non-fitness not to notice any difference - yet.

The daily commutes are tough atm.

I hope I can sustain the interest through the 'honeymoon' period.

Krank!

I struggled at first too. It does get easier though. At least the weather is getting better now.
