WTB - SYD - 12-28 Cassette

Postby JustPink » Mon Oct 08, 2012 6:07 pm

Got an event coming up with a long climb and decided it might be wise to get a 12-28 on the rear, also happy to look at 12-27's!

Looking for a Shimano compatible cassette with very little km's.

Keep in mind you may need a long cage rear derailleur for a 28t. Depending on what groupset you have.

Compact cranks (50-34) with 12-25 will give you slightly lower gearing than normal (39-53) and 12-27 and you can keep standard derailleurs. You will need to take a couple of links out of your chain. Just an alternative for you. Could run compact with 12-27 if they are really serious hills!

Thanks Roger, I was curious about that but I've got a 7900 groupset and from what I've heard from mates the 28 should be right on its limit but still fine without the longer cage.

I was thinking about a compact but I'll definitely run out of gears if I make it over the hill in a good group!
The hill isn't too serious 5.5% average but about 15km long and I prefer spinning to pushing a heavy gear.
