Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has some 1 1/8 inch threadless alloy BMX front forks without brake bosses on them please?
I have an alloy 1 1/8 inch threadless BMX front fork with brake bosses on it but the BMX frame that I want to do up requires no front brakes on it (plus I don't have any U-brakes).
If anyone in Melbourne is interested in doing a trade, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Do they need to be alloy?
I might be able to get you a pair in well loved condition fairly cheaply (<$50), but not interested in trading - front brakes are not the done thing on BMX.
Catch is that I'm in Adelaide so there would be postage too.
Hi, how are you?
Thanks for the offer, but I suppose I'm looking for someone in Melbourne so I can see them first and see if they fit and hopefully do a trade with someone.
Thanks again. Anyone else interested please?
No worries. It's probably easier for you to source them in Melbourne.
I think you'll struggle for a trade. Front brakes are not the done thing in BMX... racers have never used them and I haven't seen front brakes (U-brakes or V-brakes) on a freestyle bike for years... you only get the little bulldog calipers sold on new complete bikes to satisfy the law. I assume the forks you have are from a late 90's bike, maybe early 00's.
And as long as the forks have a 1 1/8" steerer tube they will fit. It's the standard for BMX. And it's not like road or mountainbikes... BMX stuff is all easily interchangable, there aren't 15 different standards going on. 1" forks disappeared at least ten years ago.
You'll probably have more luck on ebay or gumtree though - I don't see many people on here talking about BMX bikes.
Thanks.. well I'm hoping to try my luck on here first.
I don't understand why the headstem that I have doesn't fit on the forks. The headstem's hole seems slightly too small to fit over the forks that I have (with bosses).
So hopefully someone kind enough might be able to trade me a different fork for my fork. Please someone?
Stem is likely a 1" item, rather than 1 1/8". Are you sure your headset is 1 1/8" and not 1" like the stem?
Good luck with your search.
The stem of the forks I was told is 1 and 1/8 inch... and the headstem hole has written on it (in texta) 28mm. I haven't measured it but it is slightly narrower than the stem of the forks. So I'm not sure what is going on there. Any ideas please?
Thanks, I need all the help I can get!
Take the steerer clamp bolts out and tap a screwdriver into the clamp gap to spread the steerer opening .
The stem may have been clamped shut too tightly.
If that doesn't work I can't help without a visual inspection.
Yeah, I was trying that yesterday... maybe I'll try it again.. I didn't want to snap it or anything.
Is it possible to alter my first post please?
I just realised my forks are NOT alloy and I am NOT after alloy forks as a trade. Sorry about my dumbness! I am indeed after chromoly steel forks that are threadless without brake bosses please as a trade.
I'd greatly appreciate it.
Any ideas please on how to change my original post?
