[SYD] 1998 Lemond Zurich Reynolds 853 - 56cm

Postby lincolnsydney » Thu Jun 27, 2013 1:57 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm selling my beloved 1998 Lemond Zurich. The Zurich is hand made in the USA with Reynolds 853 main tubes and 753 rear stays. It's been a great bike, but I've moved onto a custom steel bike now and this has been in storage for a few years, so thought it's best to move it on.

It's been stored in our dry garage in my travel case, so is in good shape. Not long before it went into storage I had an anti-corrosion treatment done on. If you don't know what this is, it's basically a gel that you fill the inside of the frame with to stop any moisture inside a steel frame corroding. Rust happens from the inside on a steel bike, not the outside.

I've owned the bike since new and it's always been kept inside. The paint work is in decent shape for a 15 year old bike, with typical chips and marks around the pump peg and the inside of the chain stays.

The 1998 Lemond came with a Tange headset and an Icon carbon fork. There are also downtube cable adjusters and a seat post collar. I'd prefer to keep the post, but am happy to discuss.

This bike has been fantastic, nice and responsive and compliant.

I was thinking $300ono on this classic frame, but let me know (via PM) if you think I'm being outrageous!

I'll be sad to see it go, but there are too many bikes in the garage (so says the wife).

Cheers,

Lincoln

As I can recall, it's a 56 ST, 56 TT, 73/73 frameset, if that helps with fit

Lincoln, does it come with a fork? And what is the rear axle spacing?

Hi Al,
Thanks for the message.
Absolutely, it comes with the fork. It's threaded, mounted and ready to roll!

It's normal 130mm spacing. It came with Shimano Ultegra and I've also run Campagnolo on it.

Speak of which, if someone is interested in this as a bike, then I could build it up with a Campagnolo Centaur Compact groupset and some gorgeous wheels with White Industry hubs. I don't have a forged stem for it though (don't ask - embarrassed).

I don't think $300 is outrageous, I think you are almost giving it away

and while it is the perfect size for me

I already have an 853 steel frame as well as an SLX & a 531 frames so I will behave

I can barely believe it. Al will be the proud new owner of my beloved Lemond.

Thanks everyone!

If anyone is interested, I'll be cleaning up my US made titanium road frame, with a Look HSC 3 full carbon fork, Campagnolo Centaur, Deda Newtons and White Industry wheels over the weekend and listing it. Feel free to PM if you're keen, but I'll get some nice photos of it over the weekend and make a new listing.

Thanks again! :)

For heavens sake don't show it to me when I get down there!

Thanks so much for the sale, Al. It was great to meet you and hope the drive home wasn't too rough.

All the best,

Lincoln
