my phone decided that 'soft focus' would make it look better!

if it's fixed you don't need the back brake(thats what your legs are for), take the back off and put the pads on the front.bychosis wrote:I've joined the fixie set (kinda) Knocked this together with a spare frame while the proper frame gets painted. Just need some front brake pads and time to ride it now. I've already scared myself riding it out the driveway and back (sloped driveway). After too many years with freewheel hubs I'm guessing it will be a slow start, somewhere flat and no traffic.

I've heard about not needing a brake on the back, the pads I had are pretty old, so I'm going to let them bed in where I dont need extra braking power.BRLVR.v2 wrote:if it's fixed you don't need the back brake(thats what your legs are for), take the back off and put the pads on the front.
Sounds interesting... I've already discovered the difference purely in mounting and taking half a pedal stroke in the backyard. Feet keep going!BRLVR.v2 wrote:Just remember... Neverstoppeddalin!

Now:
The tyres are 32c but, I'll be fitting 28c in the coming days
Also, I plan to get a silver cross lever as the black stands out a bit too much IMO
I hope people find this configuration slightly less offensive

I've got short arse legs and average torso. My ideal frame is 54 top tube and 50 ST ctc, hard to buy second had in those measurements!BRLVR.v2 wrote:52 would be a tad small for you wouldn't it?PeteV wrote:Saw this up for sale, tempted but broke atm!BRLVR.v2 wrote:Selling already??

I think it's a little under-donw now. Maybe throw the orange chain back on, or the tyres (prob not both)PANZR wrote:I have slightly re-jigged the presentation of my Gulf bike...a little less orange

I think this config is perfect, don't you dare put that hideous orange chain back on.PANZR wrote: Now:

As conversions go this is one of the tastier offerings in this thread.
I think it's time for you to source out an 80's true track geo, undrilled, aussie built classic and give it the orange and blue treatment.

Most definitely...trouble is finding a large enough frame for me that wont cost a fortuneBRLVR.v2 wrote:

Ask ten guys get ten opinions - none matchingPANZR wrote:Oh bugger...I should've asked you guys before I went out and bought a new chain and saddle
I'm intrigued by the black front hub myself. Less noticeable in reality I'd expect, but in profile here it really stands out from the rest of the lightish colour palette. The black tape helps to mediate it I guess.
Not as simple a task to switch a hub out though

It may be a VISP but, the detail and the high component spec make it a truly outstanding build IMO...and I really appreciate the high quality photos too

Since my original post back in May I have:
- replaced brake levers with some bar end TT levers
- replaced heavy alloy 50mm wheelset with some very light 50mm Farsport chinese carbon wheels in comparison (will probably get some cinelli decals to add some colour to the bike)
Took the bike for a spin to Redcliffe on Saturday and a Riverloop in slightly wet conditions today and the wheels felt so much lighter and easier to accelerate
