Don't know what the frame is, got it from a mate who had it sanded and done a dodgy rattle job on before deciding it was too big for him. (58cm) Don't think frame is anything special unfortunately, but came up great once powder coated.

I converted an old Repco Olympic 12 to a fixed gear a little while back.

Started off with this...

Image

Home paint job, reupholstered saddle and hand made saddle bag.Full story can be found here...http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewt ... 28&t=45494

Have been riding it for a good few months now and love it. Just have to make some leather grip tape and she's complete.

Nice bike build christianeh, great photos too.
I like the setting for the photos. I read somewhere, "there is beauty in decay", you have caught it pretty well in those photos.

So after I (and my green Lo-Pro Pursuit Bike) got cleaned up by a car a couple of weeks ago, I finally decided on and purchased a new frame...

Teaser shot! Bridgestone NJS, straight off the Keirin Circuit in Japan!

53.5cm TT, 54cm ST!

Should be more comfortable than my Lo-Pro which had a 60cm ST and 'effective' 52cm TT lol!!!

Flip the stem, get a different brake lever (the single hood looks Naff) and get some pedals with some sort of foot retention... Clips/straps/clipless whatever.

Riding fixed is easy. I prefer riding my track bikes over my roadie.

Will do, first thing is the pedals and stem, I'll do the lever on the first service.

Took it for a ride today... Certainly different experience to the roadie! In a good way :D

Just after putting together my fixie/single-speed about a fortnight ago to take it for a midnight test ride:

Image

Image

Have only ridden it single-speed at the moment and will probably keep it this way. I have clocked up about 260km after three rides, it is so much fun all I need to think about is pedal and brake.

Changes I did from stock as I assembled it was to replace:

- the seat post (with a lay back of 45mm I just have enough saddle rail to achieve a 40mm set back position - it is the smallest bike in the range a size 47cm bike with a 75.5 degree STA)
- the saddle (the Cinelli Unicantor didn't look comfortable and I had a Specialized Romin Evo lying around meaning to replace my road saddle)
- the pedals with Speedplay zeros instead of flats, though in the picture I have the covers on them to ride them flat during testing
- in the process of getting the chain off I went too far with the pin so ended up having to shorten it by a link and a half - I have since got a new chain with a spring clip instead as I felt I didn't have enough slack in the chain
- love the bull horn bar but not fan of the Tektro brakes so replaced them with some Ultegra 6700 brakes I never got around selling. Not a fan of having to ride on the tops to access the brake levers so have got some TT bar end levers on order.

Was thinking that I would struggle with a 48-18 gearing as I want to commute to work on occasions with it but managed the riverloop with it ok. Did a ride out to Redcliffe on the weekend and really had to spin to keep up along the flats with the guys at 35-40km/h. The biggest different from my road bike is that the wheels feel like boat anchors to accelerate and keep at speed - I love the deep dished (50mm) look but the wheelset comes to total of 4.1kg (front, rear, hubs, 16t fixed cog, 18t freewheel, maxxis refuse tyres, and tubes). Am thinking of replacing them with some Velocity Deep Vs but now leaning towards some 50mm chinese carbon track wheels, perhaps f20/r24 or f24/r24 as I won't be taking them on track and at 59kg they should strong enough?
