Which paint is that? I couldn't find any Aussie stock lists of chameleon paints.

thought you could get it at superdodgy auto a while ago. they might have dropped the line though as plastidip is all the rage now.

I was looking for the Duplicolor Mirage paint, which SCA did stock, but when I went to special order some, I was informed it was a discontinued line from Duplicolor.

So if you're lucky, then some stores may have old stock. Otherwise, Plastidip do have a chameleon paint too, but I wanted something permanent.

So I did find some eventually from USA. Keep an eye out in the retro section. It's gonna appear soon.

Sorry dudes, been away working. When I do make home I'll give all details. I've had a couple can of this shite for a while.. Well over 12 months. I been waiting to apply it to something and this was a golden opportunity... For a dodgy spray over old stuff it has worked out well. We all know spray can jobs won't last but hey, it was nice when first applied [emoji16]

my new ahem training bike, Malvern Star 1949 5 star gents semi racer frame - non orig forks, paint and decals presumed date from the 60s (frame vendor guessed a bikeshop repaint after a collision killed the orig forks, I'd add to that a 99% probability the frame has been straightened). bartape is temporary (stuff looks nice in the packet, that's about its only virtue).

27in wheels (new sun m13-II rims), 27x1 panaracer pasala tires, runs 95psi and I can use 700x25-28 tubes since its difficult to find 27x1 tubes. Fixed rear, 46x17 gearing, 165mm cranks.

Its same weight as my road bike, and at centennial park, probably faster.

Forbesy's Bombtrack

Postby dodgiebros » Tue Mar 10, 2015 5:14 pm

My current steed... Bombtrack Script frame, Messenger cranks, Reynolds Solitude road wheels 'fixed' to a Dati hub, ugly but comfortable Cardiff saddle, Diacomp brake, Look stem, no name bull horns and a Gusset half link chain. She's a sweet ride :mrgreen:

If she rides half as sweet as she looks, Damn! 8)

What did the frame set you back if it's OK to ask?

Searching for a frame to replace the too small Azzurri Pista I had and found this as a whole bike on wiggle for $800. I just had to have it. Swapped a few parts between them and got the right bits I wanted on this one. The Azzurri came up nice too [emoji4]

Thought I'd try out this fixie malarkey, & see what all the fuss is about.
Just a cheapy Cell Fixie, nothing flash. I flipped the wheel round from 'free wheel' to fixed. & went for my first ride.
31Km reasonably flat route. There are some hills, mostly short. One is 7.6% & I had some trouble with wheel spin :-/

Things I knew, but were hammered home;

1 Never take your feet off the pedals.. ever!
2 Never stand up unless you are starting off, or going uphill, else you shall be ejected like a Bond villain from an Aston Martin.
3 Really need to be clipped in. Too much float.

New things I learnt;

1 Hills are your enemy, both up & down.
2 It's surprisingly comfortable.
3 Feels very smooth.
4 I need flats one side, SPD other.
5 I'm no good at track stands
6 I could never do without brakes.

I'm now ready for the Giro d'Perth this weekend :D

7 Roll up pant legs, tuck in shoelaces
Added one for you based on painful experience :wink:

Is that why so many fixie riders wear narrow long "shorts".
A beard appears to come in handy too!

I thoroughly enjoyed my ride. More than I thought. A convert? Maybe ;-)

Thought I might provide an updated picture since my last post a few years ago.

Replaced the bullhorns with dropbars and steerer cut. Running 46/17 so chain has a bit of sag.
