Spontaneous bike!
Postby fraz » Tue Oct 06, 2009 6:55 pm
So I was lying in bed on saturday morning when the thought occurred to me that I had enough bits scattered around the garden, cupboards and under my bed to make a bike! I got the tatty old Apollo 1 in the back yard which I'd bought from the tip ages ago and was going to service and fit with new tyres to give to a friend of mine but could never be bothered. Unfortunately my camera battery was flat so I have neglected to take a before photo (or after photo ...as yet) but I took everything off it except the crankset (hard as I tried I just couldn't get the dustcaps off). New wheels by Ebay, Michelin Lithion tyres, an alloy aero fork I had lying around that just happened to be a perfect fit and a saddle my brother found in my parents' garage last year and it looks pretty cool, apart from the tattiness of the frame.
Unfortunately the brakes didn't fit anymore and I don't have any that do. It's a free wheel so riding it has been a fun but somewhat irresponsible experience. I'm just trying to get my hands on a 700c front brake and a lever with hidden cable and she'll be set to go. A very satisfying afternoon's work when you can get on it and go for a ride before the sun goes down.
Pics to come once my camera finishes charging.

Actually, I thought it was a good question.
