Ideally it should should be a Fully Bushed Chain, as they don't have much sideways flex in them.
A typical chain for a geared bike these days is bushingless, which allows them to flex sideways... Not what you want on a single/Fixed gear bike. I run a KMC Cool chain (1/8th) on mine.

As far as 1/8 or 3/32 is concerned, either can be used, as long as if you run a 3/32 you match it up to a 3/32 chainring and sprocket. With a 1/8 chain you can use 3/32 chainrings and sprockets, but.... it isn't ideal, and you need to be really 100% spot on with your chainline to ensure there are no accidental derailments.

Charge Masher 1/8"
Avail in many colours and only about AUD$30.
Used by the arguably the best fixed gear freestyle rider in the world - Tom LaMarche
(so us mere mortals won't break it!)

I've used Izumi, KMC and the Charge Masher.... at the end of the day I still think a chain is a chain.

(as long as it consistent with chainring and cog...)

Yeah seconded. Chain is a chain. I just ask for the cheapest. Don't even know what brand it is

Are KMC chains the ones you get from K-Mart for $13? I've used a few of them - I can't fault them yet.

Very possibly. A local bike mechanic told me that KMC make unbranded chains for budget brands, and they are just as reliable .

Well, I've been having great success with the YBN chains. At $13 you really can't beat the price, they are super quiet and look and feel solid. Plus, and I know this is going to sound stupid, the outside of the links (the outside edge of the side plates that is) are flat, which IMO gives a cleaner look.

1/32"=MK747N

Sorry to revive this thread but I'm in the process of buying cranks to suit my chain. Sheldon says that 3/32 are derailleur chains and 1/8 are fixie. Though, the Pake or Origin8 cranks which I am looking at buying are 3/32 and say they are Track/Fixie! Help!

Sheldon has it right. It does not really matter, as long as you buy a chain that suits the width of your rings. I like 1/8 because it seems more solid. However, I run 3/32 on one of my bikes as it is all recycled road bike cogs/rings etc.
