Hi everyone, I am new in this forum, I am an uni student in perth, I am from HK.
In stage, I am going to do a fixie project, and I am going to take a indi 500 frame for my project in coming days.
As I done some research on the internet, i found that there are quiet a few tools and some parts for fixie need to buy, but I dun hv too much $$$ to spend on them, so is there anyone can tell me where can find cheap fixie parts and tools in perth?
(In fact, I hv already found on gumtree website but there were only completed projects and on ebay, I dun like to pay for the postage as I read some posts in this forum said the items bought from ebay were not good)

Cool mate, thx for yr adivse, i will try to contact him. And wt would u suggest, flatbar, bullhorn or roadbike bar will be gd for beginner and do u suggest whether should install brake or not ?? cox i saw some bike did but some didnt....

Do not go brakeless until you have at least 5000 fixed kms under your wheels and preferably not even then. You may never have to use them but chances are there will come a time you wish you had them.

Handlebars are down to choice and comfort. What are you used to riding?

+1 or more to all of Shaun's good advice.

Bugger what the "cool kids" are doing - learn to use your machine first. Even then brakes are worthy, cheap insurance. I rode to Freo and back no worries with no brakes early on in my Fixie career. Shortly thereafter I took a downhill that was just that smidge steeper than I was used to, with a roundabout with steady traffic through it at the bottom. I was lucky to walk away with just a buckled front wheel after an emergency veer up and over the kerb.

You can still learn to learn the essence of riding a fixed gear with a brake.. you learn to modulate your speed by resisting with your legs etc.

But righteous "been there done that" advice aside - I've seen a lot of Fixie specific stock in Ideal Cycles on South St. in O'Connor.

thank you for you two guy's opinions. But should i set front brake or rear brake? And except ideal cycle, is there any other store or website?

There is an argument to be had over which brake to use. I say install a front only.

Yep. Ditto to that... the bulk of your stopping power is in the front. Sheldon has some good theory articles on why this is the case - and dispells the misnomer of why you shouldn't normally go over the handlebars by sudden heavy (emergency) use of the front brake.

And for what it's worth.. of my two fixies, one has a front, and the other has both front and rear. Can you guess which is the workhorse and which is the show pony?

yes, he's get the point, cox my fd u drove his scooter and he use the front brake for sudden stopping, back part of the scooter jumped up and pushed my fd out of it forword to the ground. It luk he didnt hurt his head or neck. dwan lucky.

NObody can answer me where else can buy parts and tools, please? Who knows

I have emailed him, he doesn't seem to want to come over here.

Well.. despite being in Perth, unless I *need* something in a hurry I still buy most of my stuff over the 'net. An order over about $85 will get you free postage from Wiggle. A chain whip, lock ring spanner and some other bits & bobs will easily get you over threshhold.

Sorry, i am not not willing to come, i just only want to make sure sth. I will come in next coming months, cox I just bought the old bike, i just want to take everything off the frame and do the print job first.....hope u understand
