The spacing won't cause you any grief. Track spacing is 120 so you'll need some spacers in there, but it's not an issue.

The main thing to look for is horizontal dropouts so you can adjust the chain tension ... otherwise you wind up with discussions like the one in my Jamis Fixie thread.

Its steel ? Get the rear forks adjusted to 120.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

you can cold set 126 down to 120. Sheldon likes to use a bit of wood to bend each stay in slightly another way is a long bolt thru the dropouts and gradually tighten till you get the correct spacing.
If you think about it regular dropouts on a road fixed are far more sensible than trackends. Easier to change a flat

Basically U can use ur body weight to bent it just have to becareful....gradually step on it. Or as tallywhacker said.

Adding a spacer wouldnt hurt as long as ur axle is long enough.

firstly $5 bike .. how good is that!

Now ... I have a 126mm spaced frame as well. I am thinking of getting a 130mm spaced Surly fixed/free hub, and removing 4mm worth of spacers. Or is it better to go 120mm and space it up?

Any comments re: Surly hubs?

Surly hubs are expensive - go to your lbs and buy a novatech ... or whatever it is they're selling.

Don't worry about the spacing, just fit spacers to do the job in whatever frame you're running. It'd be different if you were doing a super schmick job (and you don't start them with a $5 frame  ) but even then, it's not necessary.

Will a 6mm spacer mean the wheel is 3mm off centre?
Nah, you bung an extra washer on either side and do it up tight  You're only looking for 3mm on either side.

On one of my track wheel sets, the locking nuts for the cones are normal thickness nuts, not the more usual thin ones

okay ... so novatech or formula hubs are sound enough from what I am reading and no need to spend on the surly hub, and get a 120mm spaced track hub, and then space it to match your rear dropouts?

Are there hub dimensions of the novatech or formula hubs online? My intention is to build the wheel myself using a open pro rim, and I need to work out the spoke lengths.

mtgower sorry to hijack the thread again ...

Just bought myself a Novatech hub from the LBS on Saturday.

$65 incl GST (with two lockrings). :D

Looks purdy.

Nice score there Mount for $5. So, how do u know it is a Repco frame given the stickers and paint condition ?

The serial number is clear. All I need now is somewhere I can go to confirm these numbers as I have another Repco and am looking at buying two more.
Setting up some sort of a breeding program ?

My brother in law has a Repco Olympic 12 (in blue/white) witha small/med frame that can go to a good home for the right price I think

Buildinng my front wheel with braking surfaceeee...and realise the spokes is 2mm toooo long. That pissed me off hard.

So just a reminder if u build ur wheels make sure the spokes lenght is EXACT. 1 or 2mm can make a huge different ie. tension.
