Is this frame good for building a fixie?hey, im looking to build myself a fixie and came across this malvern star frame for $40, but a friend of mine, chaderotti from this forum infact, said that he thought the rear dropouts didnt have enough room for movement when adjusting my chain length, could anyone tell me what they think?

Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie?nope, doesn't have horizontal drop outs so will be difficult to adjust chain tension.
Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie?Looks like you could dremel the rear dropouts to lengthen them at a pinch. Or just run a chain tensioner and build it as a single speed (not fixed). 27" wheel frame? Chad should know.
$40 is a bit much IMHO. I'd offer him $25. But tell us, oh friend of the Chad...is he in fact a real ladies man as we all suspect? Jim MY RIDES: My Velospace Profile
Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie? That brown frame has more suitable dropouts but imho is dangerous - big dent in the seat tube. So we get the leaders we deserve and we elect, we get the companies and the products that we ask for, right? And we have to ask for different things. – Paul Gilding
but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.
Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie?hmm yeah just noticed that, such a shame, ive had another look at the photos and thinking about the light blue frame from the first picture, the frame behind the indi. even though its pretty obscured i can see it has reasonable dropouts and cant see any dents, ill ask if the guy can send me a photo of it by itself.

Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie?Yeah, the red one or the lighter blue road frame look ok.
C'mon Chad..."friends dont let friends buy 27"-wheeled frames for fixies"...havent you been following young EG's thread about 27" fixie wheels?? Jim MY RIDES: My Velospace Profile

Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie?
The lighter blue one, despite the better dropouts looks quite small - and I see it's got canti/v-brake bosses.... is my sense of scale skewed, or is that a 26" rim on it? Unless you're sub 5' probably pass it on... :\ Kym

Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie? Its not about the frame Chad. Lance told us that, in a roundabout way.
But ask the seller if they take 27" or 700c wheels. It'll make all the difference in trying to source wheels, especially if you're buying fixie/flip flop wheels. Jim MY RIDES: My Velospace Profile
Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie?alright will do, thanks everybody for the help
Re: Is this frame good for building a fixie?Mullins if you're in Perth I have a frame that may suit, depending on your size, you can have for FREE. Also might be able to find some 27 alloy rims in the shed as well...we're moving soon-ish so you'd be helping me out...
