finally finished a replacement for the frame that broke.
the specs:
80s Hillman road frame 57cm square (Ishiwata tubing), powder coated pearl off white
Cougar aero blade forks
Araya rims with Suzue high flange hubs, Swallow beige wall tyres (replaced the axels and cones, nice and smooth now)
Shimano Exage brake
3TTT stem
Nitto B123 track bars
Tektro cyclocross brake lever
Shimano 600 cranks
TA Specialities 48t track chainring (have the last 3 in Perth, made out of 7075 alu and last forever)
17t no name cog (couldn't resist it - stripped and polished it)
KMC 710SL chain
BBB 26.6mm seatpost
Koga suede saddle (if kiddies didn't read this I would tell you what it feels like sitting on it)
came in at around $450 with the most expensive bits being the powder coating ($130), building the wheels ($100), and the bars ($79).

Hi Tallywhacker,
Congratulations on a very tasteful singlespeed.
I had a chuckle when I read about the saddle but the colour seems to go well with the bar tape. Why do companies spend so much money producing products that just don't work?
You did a good job of removing the rear derailleur hanger and the front forks look the part. I am very envious of the chain and chainwheels as well. Well done on a great bike.

She looks lovely.
Are you going to leave the quick release on the seat post or are you just using it until you get it sorted? I ask because it sort of catches the eye in the photo, detracts from an otherwise clean bike.
I wondered about not having two brake levers to ride on (me being a chronic rider on the hoods), but looking at that drop between the saddle and the bars, I'm guessing your either in the end of the hooks or on the flats with not much in between - that right?
She looks nice though. I'm betting the photo doesn't do her justice.

Took it for the first serious ride this morning. Smooth
The chain has just been released in Oz by KMC. Light and almost no noise but then the chainline is spot on.
The quick release is temporary, unfortunately the seat cluster takes a 6mm bolt, can find the correct size Ti bolt but no nut for the other side. suggestions ?
I spend most of the time in the drops (the B123 has nice long ends) and only use the flats when I have to brake or I'm having a chat. Almost went with some Major Taylors but they dont have a good reputation for long rides.

It looks smooth, clean & well proportioned, so therefore it looks great.europa wrote:She looks lovely.

Interestingly, I missed the QR for the seat post, but saw that there is very little adjustment remaining for the back wheel to account for the early drive train wear as it beds in. Do you have a half link, or is there more adjustment than it looks?

Yo Tallywhacker - kudos on a nice job!
Whereabouts in Perth did you get the powdercoating done? Reason being I'm still um'ing & ahh'ing about my project Steamroller.
