Restoring a frame with copper coloured/cromovelato finish..

Postby michaelas » Sat Dec 10, 2011 3:27 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums and am after some advice. I just picked up an old frame on eBay that I am going to build into a fixed gear commuter style bike, and am currently thinking a nice copper colour or "cromovelato" finish would be awesome for the frame (see pic below)Image

I have heard different techniques for getting a finish like this, but the main one seems to be chroming the whole frame and then applying a translucent lacquer over the top to get the copper colour.

Has anyone successfully pulled this sort of finish off? Any tips or alternate technique suggestions?

Thanks!

chrome-look paint has come a long long way in the last few years. you could chrome paint, then tinted clear over the top?

all a bit beyond the scope of the diy'r, but there are panel shops that do it.

How sweet does that chrome paint look when it's got a colour added over it? Looks fantastic! :)
A bicycle frame would look so good done like.
