Avanti flatbar conversion

Hi,

I'm interested in building up a SS or fixie, however I'm completely out of my depth when it comes to working out what's needed to build up a bike. I have an Avanti Blade Comp - light alloy flat bar, triple chainring - sitting around not getting used and I thought converting it to a SS or fixie would be a great way to learn about building a bike.

Before I start the build, can anyone tell me if there are any big hurdles with converting a triple chainring flatbar to a single speed or fixie road bike? I.e. should I forget about it and look for a cheap old road bike instead?
