vertical to horizontal dropout conversion

I have a steel frame sitting around doing nothing, it needs a weld repaired but other than that is good to go.
Is it possible/economical to have the rear drop outs replaced to allow a fixed gear conversion.
Would the frame need to be respaced from 130mm also?
It is a ribble 525 frame that was a warranty replacement and they didn't wan't it back. I'm wondering if I can put it to use as a fixie?
Would much prefer fixed than s/s which I know via google, is fairly easily done.

You wont know until you get a quote from a frame builder. It won't be overly expensive, but it would be cheaper to buy a new frame. (or a cell fixie)

Have you thought of running an eccentric hub or BB ? I ran a White Industries eccentric hub on a road frame for a few years before selling the bike.

I started a thread in the shed, as it was a bit quiet here and that was the advice they came up with. Good, as the frame builders haven't got back to me.

It looks a bit silly but when you consider that it solves all the problems plus gives you more racey geometry all with a couple of bolts..

It's fully dodgy. It's been discussed somewhere on this forum before.

The big bolt(10mm?) that holds the plate to the dropout is fine. But to stop the plates from rotating, you need a second screw which goes through that smaller hole, and requires you to drill the frame too. The diameter of the smaller hole is pretty small, and I'm certain that the small screw will shear in no time. The other option is to use epoxy glue. Also dodgy. You can read the 3rd line from the bottom where it states these two options.

And for the price, I'd rather pay a little bit more and get the dropouts replaced(steel frame), or just find a specific track/SS frame.

I run a fishing forum and have found that posts have dropped off.

I find Facebook so limiting in the ability to search for information.

There were lots of pages springing up and one by one they have died away.

I am active on a few special interest forums and they are going strong.
