I'm looking to build up a Cinelli vigorelli and am undecided on track pedals with straps or shimano road pedals. Never ridden fixed before if that is of interest in the comments.
Anyone want to chip in with thoughts?

Suppose I should add, it will be mostly for the 5km ride to work and back. Couple of modest hills. Otherwise, running errands and the like.

straps much better on a run around bike. you can just use normal shoes. Get a wide strap that holds its shape. makes getting in and out easier.

Only ever riden Shimano mtb SPD pedals and shoes that have laces and look like a normal pair of sneakers.

5k is fairly minimal distance really plus little rides here and there, I'd say as above just stick with pedals + straps. You could go track toe clip pedals or holdfast type straps on some flats, pending your preference.
There is the option of SPD pedals and shoes but it probably isn't worth the hassle if the bike is only doing small distances. I ride 36k round for work plus some longer kms now and I am finding I want some clip in type shoes for those sort of distances as my shoes flex a bit and I feel I lose a bit of efficiency, but shorter stuff and around town is fine.
