The speakers are hidden under the storage compartment behind the seat. They'll need some weather proofing for a Ballarat winter, but the whole velo needs that anyway.

Well, no progress on indicators yet, but I do now have a sweet "stereo system", in the form of a pair of PC speakers that plug into my iPhone. Surprisingly decent sound
