Pyrenees Magic, 2010, wet, wet, wet!

Postby Freddyflatfoot » Sat Nov 13, 2010 6:03 pm

Just finished the Pyrenees Magic ride for 2010. Big difference to last year, when it was hot! Officially over 36 C.
This year it was wet! Well, not maybe the whole ride, but it starting raining before we got to Landsborough. Then it was constant pretty much the rest of the ride.
I would say the rider count was done this year, pretty much only hard case riders like myself! ;)
Only one other bent this year, John Hague from Geelong on an M5 CHR.
I did the ride about 10 mins quicker than last year, and finished in 3 hr 31 mins.
Not too shabby, about 25 mins behind the fastest DF riders.
My speedo shows over 2200m of climbing, but I dunno if thats right. I suspect the altimeter is not the most accurate around.
Apart from being soaked to the skin, it was a reasonably enjoyable ride. Did it pretty easy, and kept the stops quite short.
Cheers!
Rob

Sounds like fun there Rob. Glad you had a good day of it. I think I'd prefer rain to the heat.
What were you riding ?

Yep, it was a great day, and I probably prefer the rain to heat as well, as long as you dress appropriately!
I was riding my Optima Raptor.
Cheers!

Onya Rob,
For 3 years in a row I've been trying to get to that one.
This year I don't regret it. So much rain is ok but where I was it rained all day and oh! boy! So glad I was inside watching it.
Good to see you're not slowing down at all too. Did the M5 pilot manage to stay with you at all?
Catcha later.

Rick.

Thanks Rick. The M5 pilot was with the front bunch until Moonambel, but then he dropped off in the hills. Didn't see him until he pulled in at the end, maybe 1/2 hr behind me?
Try and make the ride next year, it is one definitely worth doing! It is probably one of the better supported Audax rides of the calender.
Cheers!

How does it compare with the Audax Great Ocean Road.

I took the long way (200 K) and it nearly killed me. The guy at Deans Marsh stretched out his arm towards the bush claiming a "steady climb" as I looked up the gently rising road. No worries I thought. Steady should do it. It went on for 13.5 K's varying between 6 and 10 percent inclines. I just geared down and went by my heart rate. Final climb tally was 1900 metres. I was at Apollo Bay when the first riders finished and I had 73 K's to go (wheres the sag wagon). I wasn't last though.

Pyrenees doesn't look that steep or as long and... Not as busy with traffic either.

Ah! Well! Next year, rain hail or shine.

Rick.
