The "Recycler's" latest work
There is no stopping him
This one is for a lady that can't sit... bad back means she can only stand or lay on a bed.
She had her first ride yesterday...
Wow she is one happy lady
She'll now be able to get to the shop on her own [before she had to be driven laying flat in a station wagon]

Must be how it felt to ride in one of those standing Roman 2 wheeled carts.
Not that she'll be riding it like that but I just had too

Must be somethin' miraculous in the water up Woolgoolga way. I dips me lid to you both.

Coupla questions if I may be so bold...

The trike, propulsion? single sided rear brake?
The blue machine in the background, another Builder Bros effort?

G'Day Mulga bill. Questions, the more the better! The blue machine in the background is a Billy Cart made for down hill racing, but the people that made it new nothing about steering. I am going to modify it to be a pedal car, and rebuild the steering. The scooter ! I will answer your good questions later to-day, when I fully wake up and two grand kids go home from a sleep over from Pop and G'Mars place. Good Luck

By motor
has a 2oowatt
that runs vir the chain
with 5 gears
gets her back up the hills fine
goes about 20kph on the flat...
she loves it [after only two days ]... now has freedom

Here is a close up of the 36 volt electric motor and battery pack. You can see the idler gear which then goes back to the 6 speed cluster. The mounting bracket on the right hand side is for the rear brake and also for the shopping basket.
The hand throttle is on the right hand side (as in a motorcycle), gear change also on the right. Front & back brake levers are fitted with engine cutout switches. Need more info send us a line. Good luck, Too Bent.[i][[[/img]http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg78 ... 38.jpg[img][/img]

My sincere apologies Leigh and Bob - I was not in any way knocking what you guys are doing with my "anti-recumbent" comment: it was meant to be a little light-hearted fun with language.

I really did mean it when I said you guys are the best! If I knew how to do it, I'd be nominating you both for Aussies of the Year. Giving the mobility that we all take for granted to those who are without it is a truly wonderful pursuit. It makes my hobbies look so selfish.

Just wondered . Is the motor one of those that Oatley electronics advertised? Looks similar.

That motor looks like a unit from a DVD drive on steroids.

The single-sided braking/driving is potentially a problem but would I think only be an issue if she got to serious speed. So long as she's riding no faster than 20km/hr and stays on dry surfaces she should be OK.

Typical Aussie ingenuity, brilliant idea backwards! We Aussies seem to have a habit of doing this.

There are many electric bikes, kits and the like all feature a single speed drive, electric or petrol, here you have come up with a simple rugged method of adding gears!

Now, turn it around, two wheels at the front and one driven wheel at the rear, benefits! stability, three brakes, no torque steer, a basket in the front, add a seat for those who can sit, pedals for those who can asist and you have a real winner!

Been some months now that it's in use...
For the job it was made for it's gone very well.
We're talking a quite disabled lady here so these no question of her going fast or doing jumps or wheel stands.

But will admit I took it out one day and gave it a real try out and it was a might ....... well at 50 it had my heart in my mouth.... I think I now know what it must of felt like to stand up in an old Roman 2wheeler... although how they chucked a spear at the same time as holding them self in I'm not sure.

I can understand this ladies pleasure from her new found mobility.

All I can say is Great stuff.

We all have great ideas and this has to be one of them!
