Likewise mate, I spent most of this weekend dusting off my boilermaking skills building a rack so I can actually get my bike to Bris. It's all good though, the rack is finished and off to the paint shop at work tomorrow. So what's the hot ticket regarding parking etc for the drop off on Sunday morn, I can only imagine that it's going to be chaos in and around Southbank on ride day?

cheers

Enjoyed looking at the pics. It's great when you have a chance to ride with other bentists.

Is that a dedicated cycle track along the railway line?
Think I saw some graffitti on the path so maybe not.

Enjoy the Brissie Gold Coast ride. Wish I could be there.

Did you get the message about the 6am to 6:15 meet?

Hi John glad you enjoyed the pics. I must not forget my camera for the Bris to GC looking forward to meeting up with the others on the Forum.

Yes the path runs beside the railway, it's only a couple of km's but very handy for avoiding traffic on the main road only problem is it ends at a railway bridge that must be climbed over, it has a channel up the side of the steps for bike wheels but it's still pretty steep.
Did'nt notice any graffitti too busy avoiding broken glass.

G'day Steve, thanks for the heads up, Wifey just reminded me that we'll be bunking down with friends at Norman Park on the Saturday night so I may as well just ride to S/Bank, save a whole lot of frustration from the support crew. Yes mate saw your earlier post regarding grid times, I thought I read that riders will be heading out from 5:30, will that be the fast riders?

cheers

Hi Harry the official start time is 5.30am but from previous rides they tend to start late then want to give us a talk then squeeze everyone through a tiny start gate, last year we were right in the middle of the crowd and got through the gate about an hour after the official start time.
Anyhow the main reason I made the meeting time at six is so we have time to meet up away from the main bunch of riders which of course means we will also not be anywhere near the front of the 6,000 or so people trying to get started.
Then we get going on the best bike path in OZ (the SE Busway) it will all be worth it.

Hi guys
I have to bail on the Bris to GC ride. I have had the last four days off with the killer flu, and lost my voice. Consequently, I didn't sign up and it is too late now. :(

Pity, as the trike is all fettled, new ortlieb panniers and all.

Jonathan  :(

Thanks, H
Piccies are good.
Still off work, haven't ridden the Trice for a week now... very sad.
I really really wanted to get the Bris-GC ride in before my transfer to Canberra. (I start 3.11.2008). Bugger!

On the upside, not long before I can post pics of my rides around Lake Burley Griffin and elsewhere! Woohoo!

On another note, if anyone is pondering over lights... AyUps are the ducks nutz! The only downer is the price, but the quality is there, and the lighting is fantastic, so thats ok. Small, mounts really easily, and goes on/off in seconds.

Cheers

Hi Griffo,

I have also nominated 20-25kmh range NO I DIDN'T

Why do you think this will affect where we start from??maybe I have missed something or you may have come across something that may be of importance for all us starting in this group.

Cheers

Hi Griffo, Steve/s, interested others, my understanding is that the nominated speed bracket simply allows the organisers to release the riders into a concertina like procession in the hope that the nominated speed categories reduce the potential of pile-ups. Fortunately for us the organisers have not adopted the arrogant 'Recumbents and the like must start at the rear', mentality so the likelihood is that the start will occur incident free. As luck would have it I'm in the same speed category as your good selves, so regardless of how the start pans out we'll have someone to shoot the breeze with until it opens up.

until Sunday

H

The riders info kit says;

30kph+ (red) category riders must
approach from the south along Grey St
and enter the left lane after crossing
Glenelg St. If coming from the north
or the City connect to Merivale St then
turn left into Glenelg St then left into
Grey St.

25 to 30kph (amber) category riders
must approach from the south along
Grey St and enter the right lane after
crossing Glenelg St. If coming from the
north or the City connect to Merivale
St and then turn left into Glenelg St
then left into Grey St.

20 to 25kph (blue) and below 20kph
(green) category riders: approaching
from south should use The Promenade,
those from the north, West End area or
the City should use Melbourne St then
travel through the Cultural Forecourt.

Most of this means nothing to me as I don't know the streets all tha well. Does this make sense to others that do??

Hi Griffo,

I am sure we will all meet up somewhere along the route??

I guess that if we meet infront of the( Nepalese pagoda) we could all sort of start together you guys could start in the blue group & I will start " well you know" in the green group

(Steve Vonhazza) did mention this as a starting point some time back which I feel is a great place to meet before the start.

Griffo do you know where the pagoda is?????

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Have you had any issues relating to recumbent bikes and where you should start as with the Bike Victorian promoters of Around The Bay?
(Recumbents should start from rear).

William.

Hi William,

Nothing has been mentioned about recumbents where they can start that I'm aware of.
We all had to nominate an average speed group from 30kph+ down to 20kph.

Cheers
