Tyres

Postby zebee » Thu May 31, 2018 8:56 pm

That's the 4th puncture on the Scorchers. Time for something a bit more robust!

The only local supplier I have found for 20" (40-406) Marathons is King St and they want $65 each. Which seems a bit high to me.

Anyone know where I can get some decent trike tyres?

I think Trisled have only Schwalbe faster tyres listed, not lowest price, but a local 406 to check.

I got 406 Big Apple Plus 2.35 ages ago from an OS order for my minivelo, not as thick as a Marathon Plus, but a very voluptuous tyre to behold.

I need 451 road for another minivelo (and 520 for an Airninal), c r c looks like the tyre-only option.
I tried locally via sales LBS out of stock, then at the distributor called and was in luck it seemed, finding in store however it was a CX tread BMX race Kenda Compact in 451, in a store without BMXes after saying over the phone it was for the road minivelo they distributed. Loads of pretty 700c bikes, seems talking anything else is like you've got two heads and carrying an axe. I guess now I know what it feels like to be a bent rider before owning one

You are on! 3 of the Marathon plus 40-406 will do me nicely. (have to select that size in the dropdown). And 2 Schwalbe Tube No. 7 for 20" Tyres with Schraeder valve while you are at it :)

PM me with your bank details so I can pay up.

Marathons are still expensive. Anyone tried the Maxxis? I'd rather go with ones I know work till the blue shows through. (And then some judging by the state of the tyres on the Green Rocket!)

And another flat tyre this morning. Culprit was the same as the last one: a small chunk of something, probably glass, that had embedded itself in the tyre and worn a hole in the tube. Glad I am that the Greenspeed has such easy wheel removal on the front wheels.

And confused I am that it's the front wheels that are copping it Both, not just the curbside one.

Have you tried the kevlar-belted Scorcher (HD I think it is) variant? Same rubber as the standard model, so same grip & handling, but tougher. I used to use them in my race trike for a bit more durability.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Marathon Plus...
I keep an eye out for sale prices with all the online shops, buying 6 at a time for the Jellybean when the price is right.

No punctures ever with them....& yeah, I get my moneys worth out of them too
