Not quite a tour but ... Tour de IsaanWas originally planning to tour SE Asia solo in November but due to time constraints and domestic influences, have signed up for the Tour de Isaan in July. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has done NE Thailand at this time of year. My biggest quandary at the moment is luggage. I am traveling light and want to use only my two panniers, However as they only have carry handles, not shoulder straps, they are quite inconvenient to lug around. I took the strap off the golf bag to join them together for an over the shoulder effect but they remain unwieldy and the clips dig in. I am now contemplating a Vaude backpack/pannier Cycle 30. I will be left to cart my luggage around airports and to the accommodation each night. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The bike itself will be bagged (Torpedo 7) and seriously strapped to a collapsible luggage trolley (Anaconda) for flight. Bike bag and trolley will go in the support vehicle for the ride.
Re: Not quite a tour but ... Tour de IsaanI use an inexpensive lightweight Kathmandu duffel bag that folds down into its own pocket to carry my panniers on flights.

Re: Not quite a tour but ... Tour de IsaanThanks for that, I have been thinking inside the square and regarding the panniers as luggage rather than putting them inside another luggage bag

That's what the 'poverty bags' are for ![]() Maybe use two, in case it tears, but they're dirt cheap most places. Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
