Hi.
Anyone cycled around there?
Would be interested in routes ideas, when is best to do it, south to north or the other way around etc.
Something like cape town to cairo or cape town to morocco?
Thanks.

I was talking the other weekend to a German woman who cycled Cairo to Capetown. It was a supported tour, so the participants could escape much of the local food and water hazards.

Well, technically I have - Mauritius - but any advice I could give is about as valuable as Rhino poo.
Actually, not completely true - being Africa I imagine that there are lots of hazards in what you are planning. On the health side make sure that you have an appointment with a specialist travel medical practice. To cover all the shots, what relevant drugs (medicinal I mean) you can take into the place, medical facilities etc etc. They should have a range of clever and compact products relevant to the trip too like water purification stuff, antimalarial tabs, etc.
Here's a bushies trick - Take a few condoms too - in case of extreme situation they can be placed into some containing shape (like torn off trouser legs or a backpack compatment) for storing water. Expand enormously when filled. You can even choose from a range of flavours
Love riding in far away places.

A lengthy blog here about a journey of nearly three years.
Love this photo of what his Rohloff sprocket looked like when he gave it a clean after 15,000kms or so of African mud and dust
