Our fellow forumer Vintagetourer has been hit in the eye by a paintball pellet while cycling on a short tour in NZ and is in hospital.

Get well soon Graham.

Edit: Thanks to another forumer, GJ Coop, for posting this on Crazyguy.

Graham is obviously a lot better known on crazyguy than he is here!

Thanks Uncle Just and co-posters for the best wishes.

I am back in Oz giving one-eyed opinions on any topic you care to raise. Helmets, tyres, frames, chain cleaning techniques could do for a start. Don't get me started on Abbott :)

More seriously, all is well. The eye healed very quickly thankfully, although it did give me a real scare for about 18 hours when the sight was well and truly gone.

The take home message is wear bloody good sunglasses. Mine were not particularly good, but they saved my eye. I'll be cycling in the future with much sturdier sunnies or safety glasses. The likelihood of ever getting shot again is very low, but there are plenty of other eye hazards such as road gravel.

The full story in technicolour, including the uncensored version of Nigella and me on telly is at:

Graham, it's great to learn that you have suffered no permanent injury. I'll be reconsidering my eyewear for future tours. Cheers.

Thanks Ron. Yes I am back on the bike, and other than a few small spirit level like bubbles in the right eye, my sight is almost normal.
Yesterday I did an early morning training ride Lismore to Nimbin and back.
I can now say with authority that they make a good omelette in Nimbin despite the funny scent in the air there.

Re. specs, there're are some useful points here.
