Noted :(
Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.

The police on the Pakistan side of the the Iran/Pakistan border are pretty helpful and will put you on a bus to get you out of the area. If you're in a vehicle, you'll get an armed escort.

You'll also get an escort in parts of Iran too. If your in a motor vehicle then China requires escorts..

The gobermint website gives advice about 'where not to go' .. conservative and county wide where only a small area is dicey. I've been advised by a 'tour bus driver' (actually a 4WD truck) who did many African trips - that he drove through many 'war zones' without a shot being fired .. yet has had the 'bus' shot up in 'good' areas.

So .. luck, unobtrusive, respectful, and observant would be good to have along.
