Information regarding a charity ride through Cambodia.
My name is Jodie and I am working with the Pari Project and The Future Cambodia Fund to coordinate the 2-week Street Retreat Bike Ride through Cambodia. This year we are taking the opportunity to expand our base in Asia, reaching out to Singapore. Many past participants from Australia found this to be a great opportunity to explore Cambodia. So far we have 6 riders and are looking for 6-10 more to join our team. The ride starts November 1st touring through the magnificent ancient temples at Angkor, traveling along the sea, and finally arriving in the capital city of Phnom Penh November 15th.
This is the second year of the Street Retreat Bike Ride event. Last year's participants found this ride to be both an exciting and rewarding opportunity to get involved and make a difference for the people of Cambodia. Funds raised through the ride are directed towards the Andong resettlement near Phnom Penh, as well as The Happy Garden Children's Centre, two programs that count on support generated by the Street Retreat.
All of us involved appreciate any and all support. Thank you for your time.
What is it
The Street Retreat Charity Ride is a
fundraising tour of Cambodia - on your
bicycle. From 1 to 14 November, riders will
journey through Cambodia, beginning at
the Angkor Temples, and finishing in the
beachside town of Sihanoukville.
Participating in the Ride will give you the
opportunity to visit development projects,
and experience Cambodia in a unique and
rewarding way. All proceeds from the Street
Retreat will go towards Future Cambodia Fund's
(FCF) grassroots development projects in
How it works
You pay for your travel costs, accommodation and
meals for the duration of the trip. We plan and organize
every mile you ride. FCF uses our local knowledge to
pre-book accommodation with sustainable tourism
providers. FCF provides a support vehicle, as well as local
guides and basic first aid care. All riders must provide their
own bicycle and equipment and arrange transportation to
and from Cambodia.
FCF asks that each rider individually fundraise $1000, which
will go directly toward supporting FCF's grassroots
development projects in Cambodia.
FCF has been working at Andong 'relocation' site since 2007. Andong is a
community of over 5,000 individuals who were violently evicted from their homes in central Phnom Penh and forcibly removed to a site 22km outside the city. Residents have little or no access to fresh water, adequate food, medical care, livelihood, or education and many are chronically ill from preventable and treatable diseases.
The Happy Garden Centre, named by the children of Andong, provides
therapeutic support in the form of remedial education, a back to school program, sports and recreation, play/art/dance/music therapy, individual and family counseling, plus medical and dental care. In addition to this, FCF also runs a community-based water, sanitation and health program at Andong.
