Very old cruiserHi there folks I hope some one on here can help me I have just aquired a very old beach cruiser the interesting thing about this bike is it was built by the SWANSEA bike co. in FREEMANTLE W.A. it has two black swans cast in the head stock the no. on it is 39348 does this mean that it is build no 393 in the year 1948? If there is any colectors out there that might be interested in this bike please email me an offer at [email protected] I can deliver to Perth thanks for your help and I am looking foward to reading your posts Cheers Keith
Re: Very old cruiserPics would be nice. If you're able to upload them somewhere you can PM me a link and I can post them here. You won't be able to do it yourself until your post count is more than 10.
I am curious what you mean by a Swanswea cruiser. In my limited travels in the Perth bike world I've seen a few old track frames and roadsters, fairly conventional diamond frame construction. I have also seen a couple of what heard called "hump backs" where the last quarter or so of the toptube bends down slightly to meet a slightly shorter seat tube. Wondering if your bike is like this? All manner of half finished projects and a bit of randonneuring I used to be tech-savvy. Now I'm just tech-weary.

Re: Very old cruiserI've relieved Keith of the 2 star. I have a question and a couple of extra pics;
Are the pair of bars running from the front of the forks to the front of the headset functional or decorative? Either way what are they called? ![]() Swansea20111031_8458 ![]() Swansea20111031_8457 ![]() Swansea20111031_8460

Re: Very old cruiserLovely find, such a stunning looking bike.
Go fast and stop hard, it'll never catch on!
Re: Very old cruiserThe pair of bars are functional. They're meant to re-enforce the forks for extra strength.

Re: Very old cruiserThe bars on the forks are called truss rods. Should be able to find more info on them on ratrodbikes.com .
