Hi there folks I hope some one on here can help me I have just aquired a very old beach cruiser the interesting thing about this bike is it was built by the SWANSEA bike co. in FREEMANTLE W.A. it has two black swans cast in the head stock the no. on it is 39348 does this mean that it is build no 393 in the year 1948? I am curious what you mean by a Swanswea cruiser. In my limited travels in the Perth bike world I've seen a few old track frames and roadsters, fairly conventional diamond frame construction. I have also seen a couple of what heard called "hump backs" where the last quarter or so of the toptube bends down slightly to meet a slightly shorter seat tube. Wondering if your bike is like this?

Are the pair of bars running from the front of the forks to the front of the headset functional or decorative? Either way what are they called?

Lovely find, such a stunning looking bike.

The pair of bars are functional. They're meant to re-enforce the forks for extra strength.

The bars on the forks are called truss rods. Should be able to find more info on them on ratrodbikes.com .

Mate that is one awesome bike! I want one of those.
