BigW dragsters

For those that don't get / don't read their junk mail, BigW are now selling a Mambo dragster. As per all Mambo bikes, the quality will probably be on the lower end of the scale, but could be a good fun bike to customise, use for parts etc.

looks tiny, the only thing that might be OK is the apehangers and maybe the white walls... the seat looks fragile, the sissy bar is tiny....
i'm annoyed that they re-did the Mambo men's cruiser before I could get one, and the new one is uglier....

Unicrown fork and ashtabula cranks
What's the bottom line? Might make a cheap parts source for my Road King.

Assembled it - replaced wheels with black rims. This will be for my son in the future (:

Looks good with the black rims, though I did note one extremely similar for sale on Ebay just the other day
Guessing you don't want to hang on to it for your son after all?

I think that these beg to be customised with springer forks, repainted, etc. A good source for a cheap frame.

I had a look at the dragsters in there the other day. Everything looks pretty solid (heavy), welding is pretty ugly on the frame, no lugs, nice to see the frame with the twin tubes matching up with the top tube at the seatpost rather than sitting lower like some of the cheaper 70's originals. Seat is much better padded than the originals although suffers in appearance because of this.

Make sure you pull em apart and grease the bearings, lots of stories of these with completely dry bearing races

has anyone on here ever fitted gears to one of these cruisers? and/or how hard would it be to do?
Thanks in advance

depending on the dropout spacing you might get a retro 3 speed hub in there. Not worth it IMO.

I really wish they did one in a proper adult size, would be great to get one and just tart it up a bit for cruising the paths.

Don't they have a 26" wheeled mens cruiser? Add a banana seat and apehangers

Not showing on the website atm but they did have a black and red Mambo cruiser with 26" wheels, that's the one i was referring to, but i had a look at one on the floor a few months back and the frame was way too small. I would love a Micargi Mustang after seeing one at a LBS but they want $1200.

That reminds me, what is the name for those huge swept back bars the micargi has?

Bought myself a Micargi Flacon and they're not really built for people my height (6ft 1). All good - the GF needed a bike so now she's got a bright red cruiser!

I used to have a Repco cruiser from Big W. The rear wheel was egged and the frame was tweaked out of the box
