I really thought Soler was going to wrap it up until Di Luca's sprint. Phenomenal! And I wondered what happened to Rogers.
Interesting that Astana's Popovich/Levi/LA are taking 4 to 6th positions on the GC.
One more goofy commentary from Paddy Agnew... "... into the final 800 kilometres!"

Well, Soler is not a sprinter and anyone criticising him for "sprinting early" is an idiot. Di Luca does have that killer look about him.RICHARDH wrote:Yeah im sure Soler was happy to hear that he was starting his sprint a little early Armstrong fell off a bit, i think his really there for a good couple of weeks of training, would be surprised if he does the full three weeks his looking at July. Di Luca looked very strong.

In my case it's hang on for dear life.sogood wrote:Paddy Agnew seemed to have this thing about 800m. He specifically mentioned it again in Stage 5. Anyone know anything racers are supposed to do at 800m?
Di Luca seems to be having a good go again this year. Not sure about his TT ability though.
Stage 12 could be a good one for Rogers if he can minimise the damage before hand, and he is able to perform near his best.
Just wish I could watch it live.
Kev.

Yeah that was really annoying! I delayed my commute to work because I wanted to watch it, then at 7:30 I gave up and left home, I was hoping that if I took the short route to work I could watch it when I got here, but ended up missed the whole thing. The highlights they have online are quite a bit shorter, it'd be good if they could put up the whole 15 minutes.sogood wrote:SBS screwed all the early risers this morning with lengthened coverage of Coppa Italia due to overtime and penalty shoot-out.

Is it? I thought the online video is exactly the same as their morning summary. At least I haven't noticed any difference over the last few days. Their late night highlight goes a lot longer.philip wrote:Yeah that was really annoying! Another source for race info that I've found really good is the cyclingnews.com live updates (you can go back and read the previous stages as well). If you're up late and can't stream it live online it's a good way to follow what's going on.

Read this interesting report on CyclingNews.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id= ... /may15newsMichele Scarponi swears that he didn't lose 4:46 in stage five to Alpe di Siusi on purpose in order to get some freedom to break away the day after. "I lost time yesterday because I didn't manage to go well in an important stage," Scarponi said. "But if there wasn't this gap [6:19 to race leader Danilo Di Luca] they wouldn't have let me go today.
That's an interesting strategy to be permitted an escape. Guess a stage win is more important for these guys than their GC result. Irrespective, he did well to be able to stay away for the duration.

Monday fit compact cranks and 12-27 onto Cannondale.
Drive 250km to Briançon on Tuesday morning...driving past the base of Alpe D'Huez and over the Col Du Lautaret (while looking up at Galibier) then down into Briançon.Parking up somewhere close to Briançon.
Then passport in hand climbing up to French / Italian border and then descending into Italy and climbing up again to top of Sestriere for a look...then descending back a bit to find a comfy place to watch il giro pass by then riding back the same way and home.Looks good on paper...all depends on weather closer to the time. Will still be a fair bit of snow around I would think so need to lug warm cloths and back pack with me...and no Canon Full frame DSLR's...that would break my back!.
