TDF

Postby bigbuzz73 » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:56 pm

Hi everyone,
Like a lot of people I'm tired today after staying up last night to watch the TDF. Is Robbie a machine or what??!! How the hell can you fall off 22km from the finish and come from 150th 5km out and go past the world's best riders like they were standing still? He wasn't even in the overhead shot 100 metres from the line. I think I woke the neighbours up with the hooting! Kinda makes you feel puny in comparison.
Until this year I never paid much attention to the TDF, but I'm absolutely hooked. The tactics and teamwork are bloody amazing. The way his team dropped back to bring him back through the field was damn impressive. Just like chess minus the nerd factor!
Who else is plannining three weeks of sleep deprivation?

No..."reasonable" is at lunch time...I don't stay up this late on a work night!!

But I must admit, it is earlier in France so will improve tonight.

It was an amazing finish, I'm glad I stayed up to watch it too.

I was also pleased to see David Millar get the King of the Mountains jersey for his impressive climbing of the fabled lofty peaks of Kent...

Another amazing effort from Robbie McEwen. What always amazes me about Robbie is his ability to appear to be invisible in the pack & then burst out of, apparently, nowhere & outsprint anyone.

Does anyone think he has another team's jersey & knicks over his own until 400 metres out?

What a master, what discipline to keep his cool & what a team to bring him back in the way they did. Still tired but do you think I'm going to bed early tonight? Nat a chance!
Steve.

How difficult do you think it was for Robbie to get thru the pack?

Apparently no-one serious hurt. Hope this is right.... for the sake of all the riders.

Phil and his accent.

Here's how I've heard some of the team names -
Rabbit bank
Leaky gas
Angry turtle

In general, you're right and Phil's pronunciations and mistakes are part of his charm as a commentator - he's maturing into another Murray Walker :D

However, Leaky Gas is actually the way the team Liqui Gas (sp?) pronounce it themselves, apparently it's an 'in' joke - my source for this is Phil explaining it during last year's TdF
