I think we need a none Cadel specific Giro thread...I can only handle so many lovers and haters and in betweens!.
Stage 5...that was bloody brilliant!...don't read if you don't want to know.
Jerome Pineau and crew keep the bunch at bay by 4 secs!...poor Yukiya,he drove it all the way in the last km...them's the breaks!.

havn't been able to watch live coverage... though its great that the Aussies, particulary Porte, Goss and Brown are up there.

Good to have some young riders making some noise.

Looking forward to the stages when the hills start coming.

Cadel's already moved up 2 spots, but still at same time behind the others. Asatana must be rueing the last 500m when their 5th guy dropped off the TTT train !!

Must also hurt that BMC got beaten by Lotto in the TTT

Go Cadel.

What's the stage that we'll first see the GC guys show their stuff ?

The next couple of days have a 2000m climbing late in the day, before downhill runs to the finish.

But Sunday is what you are hanging out for Monte Zoncolan 10.5km climb at 11.5% (max 22%) to finish.

Then Monday is a rest, before Tuesdays ITT, only 12.8km but 1,089m climbing, the last 5km on gravel and the last section at 24%. 45 minutes (or much longer for a sprinter) of hell on two wheels

GC will be very, very different next Wednesday morning

Good stages for breaks then? Hope Garmin release the hounds; i.e. encourage an attempt at a stage win for Meyer or Bobridge. I know, I know, they're still in their early years of their careers; call me impatient but I just want to see what those boys are capable of in a GT.

If there was one day for full live coverage, that'd be it. I can't imagine what that would be like to ride, let alone race

Given the Cycling News coverage/comments from Pellzotti, Evans et al did a recce up there, this might be a good place for Cadel to claw some time back 8)

As mentioned - Stage 8 on Sunday. is the first big climb...
Then stages 14, 15, 16, 19 & 20 are where the winners will emerge...

Looking forward to Sunday nights finish & as mentioned stage 16, individual time trial..

Go Cadel... Any Aussie for that matter... :P

I am just wondering if they will hit weather problems anywhere...It is still March weather here...ie:cold and wet.SO I can only imagine what it is like at 2000 meters and 500 km east.
I think the strongest rider will rise to the top in this Giro...there is a mountain finish in two days...a super mountain tt coming up plus Zonco. But the middle week will be really fast with no sprinters making there mark yet and then no team will be strong enough to control the final 8 or 9 days.

I missed the SBS2 coverage of the TTT last night, I didnt want to cut my usual bunch ride short to get home in time. Given the pretty average coverage[in my noobie opinion] I decided I like riding more than watching.

Apart from that theres a lot of good news out of the race and its been interesting to follow.

With Goss and Porte up there in the mix its nice to have a local interest and so many Aussies on tour, two in the top 10 is not bad for little ol Tassie

Nickobec that description of mondays stage is brilliant!!....geez I cant wait for that

I hope Cadel just goes bang  .....in a good way 8) I love watching him climb and he looks strong to me, I cant help but feel like hes going to monster one of these mountain stages.

SBS coverage of the Giro is not the best.

Fortunately for me I live in Perth, so I get it live via Gazzetta every night, finishing about 2300.

Gazetta is the official media sponsor of the Giro and they stream it live, no restrictions. Of course the commentary is in Italian.

There are other live options just visit steephill.tv or cyclingfans.com, you should be able to find English audio to go with Gazetta video.

I have been watching some of the streaming feeds. The Italian commentators are excellent. Even when they are tootling along with nothing happening, it sounds like a bunch sprint up a drainpipe the way they commentate.

Hi

Eurosports is a bit better but still not much. Last night was a 3/4 hour highlight package and then three hours of racing.

Just on SBS's coverage, it's so much better than nothing at all, and I like Matt Keenan he's across it pretty nicely imho.

Will miss French Eurosport commentators for TdF: Eurosport staff, Jacky Durand, JF Bernard, Virenque. They call team directors during the stage, and have more than a few jokes. really untertaining! Much better than the French TV, except perhaps for Jalabert.

Hi

Nothing on TV :( but good coverage at http://videochat.gazzetta.it/index_giro.shtml (full screen is not too bad) with English commentary courtesy of Eurosport at http://www.fromsport.com/video-247102.html. Works pretty well :)

Wet and wet :)
