Don't think there's a thread for this yet.. I think it's going to be extremely awesome. The course looks the goods, I think it's hard to tell who it's going to suit. Here's a good video of McEwen previewing the first part of the course:

Part 2:

Also CT has a great bit of video of going over the course. CT being CyclingTips not Christine Tham.

It is amazing, they are just going to ride through Geelong suburbia; past peoples houses. It is a nice looking route - scenery-wise.
I do hope they replace the bridge of death as they have promised to.
What is it 8 times up those hills, I am not sure it is a sprinters race - unless it is Milan San-Remo esque?
I reckon it will be exciting, esp the decent. I hope the coverage does it justice.

Yeah I think it'll be a bit weird watching it go through suburbia, in contrast to the normal euro races we watch, but I'm sure it'll be great. I think it's 10 laps of the course, the hills aren't long but they do have some pretty steep bits, if the pace is fast I think the sprinters will get spat out, but it's hard to tell. I hope Cadel is in form to defend the jersey, some have said it's not a course for him but I'm not sure why, it seems to me it would suit him just fine.

Some mates and I are still debating whether to hitch up the caravan and head over and watch (and do some riding as well).

Probably left our run a bit late though :(

Looking at the course, you could just pitch a tent somewhere on the side of the road - or look up those relo's in Geelong you have been trying to keep secret.

It is a down hill finish I think which probably isn't Cadel's bag. But if Oscar's nose is better and he does some training, well, a fourth set of stripes, is it possible? They'd have to call him a zebra. But after Ali Jet, anything is possible for the OAP's.

I really hope Oscar doesn't win!...it is nice to actually see the rainbow jersey during the following year!.

Nope, uphill.

edit: 2nd vid gives a good impression of the finish. Kicks up at the last corner for about 100m, flattens out (false flat) until about the last 200 when it kicks up again. It's certainly no mountain, but there will be no free rides either.

Cant wait for this. Course is not as flat as many would have you believe, the climb through challambra crescent won't be popular with the pure sprinters, and the climb from the queens park bridge isnt overly long at all, but they will feel it when they are heading up it for the 7th/8th time. I used to ride up it on my MTB back in the day, last time I went through there I walked it

I'm just looking forward to being able to stroll the 1km from my driveway to the course 8)

Pretty early - theres only the usual nature strip/footpath (some parts dont even have a footpath) and its not an overly wide street.

See here.

edit: link not working properly, type in 2 challambra crescent highton as the address (it should auto populate)

Hmmm, ok. Well feel free to save me a good spot if you get there first! :D

That is awesome. I hope you have noted where the bar has been set for posting photos of the race in 'your backyard' for those of us who won't make it :) :)

I'm lucky enough to have my girlfriend taking me over to Melbourne for my b'day on that particular weekend ... rather delighted that it was the only time that I was free to travel...... :P

Opinions are varied on what type of rider the course will suit. I think either way the Aussie team has cards to play :)

My tip is Fab. He was devastated to miss out last year, I think he felt he was the strongest guy in the race. He'll be very focused on this race and we've seen at Flanders and Roubaix what he can do when he focuses on something.

Would love to see Cadel successfully defend though :)

I'll be travelling back and forth from Melbourne each day, much cheaper than staying down there for me, time off work has been organized, I'm looking fwd to it

So if I was im_no_pro this is what I would do. I would take the week off before the Worlds and every day do some lazy laps around the course in the morning and afternoon. You would be sure to have the chance to shadow or even ride with the pros as they recon the course

Thanks mate :) Doesn't help me much though - No One HD pretty much anywhere outside of Perth over here

Guess I'll be waiting for the Worlds to come to Woop Woop before I see any action... :(

Would love for old mate Heinrich get up!!

It's not going to be as much fun as you think... first you'll have to walk across your front lawn, which will be full of forumites and their bikes and tents! :D

Don't worry, we'll leave some cash on your fridge.

Seems to me you need to get your priorities in order then :)
