Me too. I was very disappointed at the end he didn't get a second Rainbow in a row as he fought so damned hard throughout that race!. Would have been only the 6th to do it too!

As Gilbert said, road cycling has too many factors, the strongest may not necessarily win.

Better for Cancellara, 4 years in a row of pure solo power!

As has been said by others, great ride by Evans and Davies (am I right in getting the impression from their respective interviews that there's no love lost between them?) but Simon Gerrans also deserves a heap of praise for his efforts and obviously Stuart O'Grady for his role as Captain.
I'm sure the rest of the squad did immeasurable work to get the rest of the guys in position for the finale but every time I looked it was Gerrans driving it in the top three lap after lap.

as posted on cyclingnews forums, apparently this bogan tried to force his way onto the circuit.

i'm sure he'd have been infuriated with the riders being 8 abreast.. :D

We saw some D***head jump the barriers and run across the straight heading back towards the ocean. Not a smart move considering the support cars were clocking 100km/h+ down there.

Yours truely spent the hours sifting through, selecting, editing and publishing - to be honest, I would have preferred to be on the sidelines watching and snapping away :) Here are a few for a taste

Slow shutter speeds are nice to play with on a crit circuit when the riders go past 10,20,30 times...but when it is possibly a once in a lifetime chance to get a good shot I can certainly understand using a fast shutter speed.
I would have liked to experiment with these...

But when you travel a couple of hours each way to see the race fly past one time you want to know you have a pic!.

I had the time of my life at the UCI Worlds on Sunday for the men's Elite Road Race. What can I say........ a nirvana for me, bike racing and photography all rolled into one. I'm mostly a landscape photographer and have never pointed a lens at any form of sports action in anger. I'm very pleased with the exposures I managed to get through the barriers on Westbury Terrace on the inside of the course, just where the hill kicks up close to the top of the course.

What a day! Sunshine, a great crowd and a magnificent race. My congratulations to Cadel Evans for defending his title hard and to the very end and to Thor Hushovd for a great last moment victory.

That was one of the best weeks I have ever had. Traveled by bike, car, train, ship and bus on a nice little adventure :D

I got the new camera just for this trip[Canon SX210 IS] Im still very much just a point and shoot operator but it took some ok pics I think. Though the first couple of days photos are a bit dodgy  . it was only practice day and day before thankfully.

Anyway, here are some of the under 23 mens.

Considering I did not really know many of the under 23men or the women before the races, I found them to be equally exciting to watch. Its a bloody shame the girls dont get more coverage.

Excellent shots guys, great reminders of an awesome weekend. Cant see myself in any of them though!

Also if anyone heard/saw the 5 guys riding mtbs around the track with an airhorn equipped back[ack on the sunday, that was us. Great fun scaring people with random blasts, and equal fun dodging bike ignorant pedestrians the entire length of the track
