The race course for the World Road Cycling Championships at Geelong is under threat from the floodwaters on the Barwon River today. One moth to go - will they have to rebuild the bridge?

But catch the cr@p in the usual comments at the end

as Davo said in the reader comments, the problem is that the race will not properly showcase geelong. they should change the rules to have bogans in their modified toranas doing laps of the course, buzzing the riders and yelling abuse at them. to keep it a level playing field, they could train the bogans to yell abuse in native tongues of the riders :)

meh, its not like they don't close enough roads for motorsports in australia already.

There are at least 3 V8 meetings that take place on public roads, there is F1, and rallying in australia has to run pretty much every event right down to club level on public roads.

Don't you people get it?!

Foreigners are coming to Geelong and bringing something that they don't understand. That's not good!

If they take Geelong, Australia will fall!

Dont forget Geelong has its annual Speed Trials which closes off the forshore so hot cars can do screaming laps all day.

it will take most of the bogans in geelong a week to stagger home from the MCG after their team loses the GF... wouldnt be too concerned about them, local bogans will be such a minority that weekend anyway.

This is a gold reply:
These type of comments are classic. The problem is Bogans just don't know they're Bogans (and
never will).

Yeah realised not long after I posted it that they are no longer on. Worst still, when I really thought about it I can recall the old man saying he couldnt go anymore, and that was a good 10 years ago. My bad.

Australia has many stunningly scenic places worthy of a world champion bike race,
these suburbs of Geelong must be truly awesome

And the point made, from my link back to the original Geelong Worlds post...
Conflicting Situation. :?:

As stated.
In order to meet the UCI’s strict criteria for the event there was no flexibility on the race course
So why stuff around with a possible flooded course?

Geelong may end up looking pretty foolish. :?
And from the competitors point of view, you would expect the race couse to be fixed, if only to know
what you are up against (as a rider), and make it an even playing field for All Teams. 8)
Could reflect badly on Australia, if it all comes apart at the seams.
