It will be interesting to see what comes of this, and the effect it has on the new Bjarne team.....

Tour de France champion Alberto Contador has reportedly tested positive to a banned steroid in news that will send shockwaves through the cycling world.
Contador - who has won three Tour de France championships – reportedly tested positive on July 21 this year with the analysis revealing traces of the banned steroid clenbuterol.
Contador has blamed food contamination for his positive test result.
Advertisement: Story continues belowIn a statement released by Contador's publicist, the cyclist will hold a press conference to address the allegations in Pinto, Spain at midday local time (8pm AEST).
"Alberto Contador is affected by a doping control at the last Tour de France on July 21, where it was found the substance clenbuterol," the statement said.
"From the time of the first communication from the UCI, August 24, Alberto Contador alleged food contamination as the only possible explanation of what happened and has been turned over to the cyclist authorities since then in the confidence that this very serius (sic) problem could be clarified, which now is plubic (sic).
"The experts consulted so far have agreed also that this is a food contamination case, especially considering the number of tests passed by Alberto Contador during the Tour de France, making it possible to define precisely both the time the emergence of the substance as the tiny amount detected, ruling out any other source or intentionality.
Australia's Cadel Evans finished second to Contador in the 2007 Tour de France.
Under testing guidelines, Contador allowed to request retesting of a second sample.

I want to know what food I should eat to also micro-dose up on clenbuterol, but can't quite see what micro doses of clenbuterol can do for me...

He may have just gone to Dr Fuentes place for dinner and not realized ... that every morsel is contaminated over there.

He has been 'suspended' based on the +ve test which is std practice. The Womble wrote:Alberto banned effective the 28/9. 2nd sample also tested positive
It remains to be seen whether he can worm his way out of it or not. The reported level in his blood is pretty low though.

Microdosing is a well known strategy across all sports, and across many substances.MichaelB wrote:He has been 'suspended' based on the +ve test which is std practice. The Womble wrote:Alberto banned effective the 28/9. 2nd sample also tested positive

Take a small amount of testosterone in a heavy weights cycle, and you wont be detected.
The only time a drug level should come into account is when it passes a mandated threshold level. I don't take it he was prescribed this, so I doubt whether the amount would / should come into play.

And it breaks down to 4 ng/mlh3ndry wrote:The amount found was 50 picograms, which is apparently 400x less than what WADA must be able to detect.

The threshold for clenbuterol being 2 ng / ml

1 kilogram (kg) = 1000 g
1 g = 1000 mg
1 mg = 1000 µg (microg)
1 µg = 1000 ng (nanog)
1 ng = 1000 pg (picog)

except that it is an "approved for use in some countries as a bronchodilator for asthma patients" and "in September 2006 over 330 people in Shanghai were reported to have been poisoned by eating pork contaminated by clenbuterol that had been fed to the animals to keep their meat lean"...maybe alberto likes pork chops too!trailgumby wrote:Not hard to see why it's banned.

Fuyu Li got done for the same thing, at nearly the same value (probably the limit of observability). I don't think he was suspendedJV911 wrote:except that it is an "approved for use in some countries as a bronchodilator for asthma patients" and "in September 2006 over 330 people in Shanghai were reported to have been poisoned by eating pork contaminated by clenbuterol that had been fed to the animals to keep their meat lean"...maybe alberto likes pork chops too!trailgumby wrote:Not hard to see why it's banned.
