SBS Live Site at The Bike & Lifestyle show (Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park)

As a premium partner of the The Bike & Lifestyle Show, SBS have teamed up to deliver a first-of-its-kind Tour de France Live Site on Friday night - July 22 - including bar facilities, for the historic Alpe d'Huez climb which will see the winner of the general classification determined.

This presents the perfect opportunity to grab your cycling friends or family together after work to take in all that the Bike & Lifestyle Show offers before enjoying a beverage at the SBS Tour de France Live Site into the early hours as the race unfolds on the big screen.

Renowned for its large and frenetic crowds, Alpe d'Huez has been a stage finish at Le Tour almost every year since 1976, although absent from the route in both 2009 and 2010, the first time since then that it has missed two consecutive years. It returns this year in preparation for the race's 100th anniversary in 2013.

What is the Eurosport coverage (on Fox Sports in Aus) like for the TDF? Do they show the whole of each stage?

Thinking the free Foxtel on Xbox 360 offer for a month could be perfect for watching the Tour on Eurosport. Just have to hold out signing up so the 1 month doesn't expire before the tour finishes.

do you seriously want to watch the first hours of each stage, before the peloton winds up?

Unfortunately I can't stay up all night watching le tour and SBS coverage doesn't generally start until 10pm or later. I'd rather watch some cycling at 7-8pm than the other rubbish that is on FTA TV.

I know there are morning and evening highlight shows on SBS but they tend to be a little bit brief.

Eurosport's program guide doesn't extend far enough forward to see what their coverage will be like yet unfortunately.

Download the stages the next day on torrent and dont read the news on the results till you watch it!

eurosport and other european broadcasters will televise live Tour stages. steephill.tv will point you in the right direction. there's not much going on though, until the 2nd half of most stages.

Team announcements starting up - Quickstep:

Tom Boonen (BEL)
Sylvain Chavanel (FRA)
Gerald Ciolek (GER)
Kevin De Weert (BEL)
Dries Devenyns (BEL)
Addy Engels (NED)
Jerome Pineau (FRA)
Gert Steegmans (BEL)
Niki Terpstra (NED)

More interesting however... and with the recent discussion on photographers covering the tour (Gerard Vroomens blog post) I noted on the letour website that there are 240 accredited photographers covering the race. Obviously not all on motorbikes. They are beaten by 260 camera 'men'.

Back to the riders - when I get more time I want to take a closer look at which Aussie cyclists are likely to take part this year.

Anyone received their pre-ordered copy of this yet?

I'm still waiting for mine, but i believe it's in the shops.

which is ass-about if you ask me.

I bought mine from the local newsagent on Monday. I would have thought a pre-order would have been delivered before general release.

indeed, which is why i'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat, i figure if it's just me then i'll chase them up, if others are in the same situation i'll do . . um. . nothing. :?

Stand by for the Australia Post excuse. This is the one used in the past when this has happened. They where supposed to have fixed this last year IIRC.

Ditto. I suppose it depends on when Wiggins blows up. Hopefully he avoids the bleeding carrots this year !!!

Imagine a drinking game if you had to skull everytime someone for Euskatel-Euskadi hit the deck. Especially in the nervous first week.
