Fantasy Tour De France

Postby im_no_pro » Tue Jun 14, 2011 11:44 pm

Just answered my own question, cyclingcentral put out via twitter last week that it will be running, details coming soon. Wont be much time to fiddle with the starting lineup :(

Huzzah!

I finally got my spreadsheets and whatnot setup last year to give it a red hot try - I want that podium. Only problem will be meeting deadlines given I'm in a different timezone now.

Just announced: http://www.sbs.com.au/cyclingcentral/ho ... ?cid=23218

There were some clever members last year how helped everyone join in in the Bicycles Network Australia group.
Who want's to set that up (I am a bit pressed for time).

Prizes this year are a trip to next years TDF ($13000) and 3 x runner up prizes of $5000 (Avanti bike package).

Hi

I have set up the mini league. Same as last year. It is called the Australian Cycling Forums and the password is BNA.

Image

Just goto http://fantasycycling.sbs.com.au/default.aspx and then click on "Challenge your Friends" and then Join min-league ... as I am signed in I can't see what happens from there but I think you have to have created your team first.

No worries. BTW I am approving them as quickly as I can but it seems that it may take up to 24 hours to appear in the league.

Teams recently added to this league may have to wait up to 24 hours to appear. Also, only submitted teams will appear in the league once teams start scoring points.

I also cannot turn off having to manually approve teams so sorry for any delay caused by me.

Saw you (approved) but not your wife. Hopefully that will come through soon.

Edit: Both approved.

Joined the mini league under Team Steele. Good luck to all. How did we fair last year was there any winners?

The SBS Fantasy Tour de France interface in 2011 is a nightmare... what a mess. I hope SBS didn't pay a cent for this 'application' because it has clearly been setup by programmers who have not anticipated it to be used by regular users.

I have gone for a safe team with a mix of favourites, my favorites and a small patriotism component.

Approval done. Thanks also for the heads-up here. It seems that the notification emails are haphazard so posting here is a better idea.

I'm in - Skippy's Kangaroos

Looking over the rosters it appears that there are way too many riders (and maybe teams). They list over 400 riders and 22 teams. That suggests to me that there are going to be a lot of culls to that list as final rosters are announced (and the game is updated). Is there a definitive list of starters anywhere?

+1 Worst UI I've seen in ages. I could have done this 1000x better in Flash.

Team lists are being posted in the Tour de France thread. I just rely on that and SBS Cycling Central feed for updated information, not the game.

Flash is getting unpopular and I am doing more and more HTML5 stuff with jquery. Works on iPad and co.

Agree that flash would be a nice contained option for this - and easy to reskin for different sites / regions.

Flash is only getting unpopular because there is no plug-in on iOS. I think that's a good thing though. Most Flash on the net sucks. I think Flash will have a resurgence as an app development environment though. Especially as Apple relented and now allow Flash apps. It means not only a web game, but iOS and Android app versions without re-writing.

However, even as a html game this could be done so much better.

A lot lot better.

Any user testing or even testing at all?

Also anybody who knows anything about cycling valuing riders, eg sprinters like Greipel 2.5m, J J Rojas 3m and others. Martijn Maaskant 7.1m while team mate with two top 10 TdF finishes Christian Vandevelde 3m

ps Andrew my team is EPO Breaks 2

Should we complain to SBS before or after Nicobec wins the fantasy comp this year?
