Indeed! And beating Gilbert too.

He's off to Colardo next month also:

BTW, I didn't realise he can wear the maillot jaune ALL YEAR!

You mean it was rigged in his favour?

That's a bit silly. So how long can post-tour crits last?

Think of them like exibition matches at the golf. The top riders get very good appearance money.

They have just come off the tour so they arent in top form. The spectators don't want to see their heroes get smashed by some nobody in good form, and top riders don't want flog themselves for no result. So everyone has an understanding about what will happen. Everyone wins. :)

Indeed, from what I've read of the history of the tour that is the way it goes. "Exhibition match" - nice description.

That's a very cynical view and I don't buy it. Cadel won because he's in tour winning form. His final TT should be testament to that.

indeed. in fact, there is a long history of Tour winners carrying their form over to winning post-Tour criteriums, so it makes sense :D

Its not cynical, its factual.

from cyclingnews

Post-Tour criteriums begin in earnest

Having just finished the Tour de France, many riders returned to racing on Monday with the opening Post-Tour crtieriums. The traditional epilogue to the Tour, the criteriums give fans a chance to see their heroes up close in a 'festival' like atmosphere. The winner may be fixed but the racing is often exciting and entertaining. Check out all the criteriums over the next fortnight, but don't take the final results too seriously.

Whether you believe it or not doesn't change the result.

There's some pro wrestling on TV for you to watch when you finish with the post TDF crits.

I didn't know about the yellow jersey either. Or is it just for the post tour crits?

I was hoping Cadel would ride the Vuelta. Guess thats what happens when your the big gun on a US team. Shame I reckon he could've been in with a shout for two GT's in one year.

Some of them probably still believe in the tooth fairy

Now I can see why Aussies are the butt of many a joke on the cyclingnews forums

Then again, there was another one that was 'won' by Gilbert "outsprinting the two Schlecks". Yeah right, honest competition.... .just like wrestling

But great that Cadel won one :D
