Because the judges back counted their positions in the previous stages. Gerrans had a lower cumulative position count than Valverde and hence the ochre jersey.

It was a very exciting stage.
Is that what happens at other tours? Phil and Paul were expecting Valverde to be in ochre having won the stage. Seems a bit dodgy to me.

I'm sure they didn't cook up a rule on the spot that gets Gerrans in Orhre

No I guess not but I'd have thought Valverde who has won a stage and is equal on time with Gerrans would be ahead of Gerrans who has not one a stage. Gerrans beat Valverde 3rd and 4th on stage 2, other than that neither have been in the top 10 for a finish. Obviously I know squat about how they do the count back

Just heard they count back all the results of placings add them up and lowest score wins. Gerrans 77 and Valverde over 100.

Yes Greenedge (+ every other aussie rider) has to stop Valverde from getting a time bonus.

Love the phillism''s "Durbridge and Meyer look very similar except quite clearly Durbridge is much bigger" It has to be scripted.

The support the SA public give the race is fantastic. It must be a pleasure being a cyclist in Adelaide :D

It is :D however Kudos to all the visiting riders from interstate, the city has been full of them all week and it certainly adds a lot to the atmosphere.
