Tour Down Under
Postby europa » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:12 am
That's always a fantatistic race with a fantastic atmosphere. Get there early to grab a spot by the fence because there's always a very large crowd.
Sadly, I won't be there, I'll be watching AU getting thumped at Hindmarsh ( for missing the race and for the tattered remains of the strongest team in the league - thanks Viddie ). I did suggest to the lad that we go to the cycling instead ... sometimes a parent realises that cowardice is the safer part of parenting (the kid's obsessed)

Oh hang on. It was the weekend. All our news comes in from Squidley or Melboring and they ignore anything not in their back pocket

Couldn't find anything in the Australian today either, but cycling did get a mention. One article was titled "Top-level push to clear doping doubt on Davis" and the other was "Golden double for track team." Sorry but couldn't find the articles on the Australian website.

It is the 10th Anniversary of the event, the 1st Pro Tour event outside of Europe (not that it counts for much) the biggest bike race in Aus, etc.
The local paper had some stuff, but nothing on any of the national TV stations and nothinbg in the programming guide for any channel today.

It was interesting to see how the two experienced pros outfoxed the UniSA rider (Richie Porte) at the bonus sprints, but it would have been a great learning lesson for him, and raised his profile with all of the people watching.
A bit warmer for todays Stage 2 with a max of 33 degrees and a bit blustery.

My god, poor sportsmanship like that really makes me wonder... can't beat the guy fairly so why not make him crash... appalling.

When Stuart O'Grady got penalised in TDF 2006, the problem was that their handlebars got locked but it looked quite different from different angles.
