58:42 avg speed 47.01 :o of this Hilly / Rough road TT

Maybe it's a blessing he bonked though shorter effort and has a recovery day. Porte burnt a few matches too, Durbridge less so from what I saw, and he is 2011 under 23 world tt champ. We should have a new vote for the tt.

Don't know if they specifically said he pulled out, but he basically stopped when he popped. Highly doubt he finished. Was pretty confident gerro had the best shot with once Cam blew up, and thought he had it in the bag when sutton couldnt hold on. As Richie Porte said, that would have to be the slowest sprint for 2nd in the history of the nationals

Great race all up, the sky boys looked in with a chance for a bit there.
He must have jumped into the team car after the chasing group passed him. We watched him on the TV as the group passed him half way up the climb, but he never made the KOM point. So team car ride I would have expected, though magnificent ride none the less.

@mickrogers Considering Mr Constable was probably paid a considerable sum of $ by CA and John Craven to protect the race/riders! Not acceptable!
Unfortunately that is the opinion of the local constables. On the Saturday the officer manning the Yankee Flat Rd/Gear Ave corner had a very similar attitude to the point that we had to move on because we couldn't stand the crap he was saying.

Had similar issues last year with the attitudes to the cyclists (racers) of some of the same officers, unfortunately they are the most obnoxious at the event from what I have seen. Everyone else is there because the want to see the cycling and enjoy the event.

Good pickup, Ozdavo.

Not sure he could have even acted on it ... I think it was Shane Banaan who said, he was going great, "then his lights went out".

Re Renshaws comment....... If the Australian riders want to do well over seas, then they need to be racing on hard courses, not some mamby pamby
course that suites out right sprinters!

That may be true but variety is also good. You dont want the one type of rider winning every year.

but renshaw will never win at buninyong, or similar courses overseas. he's a flat track bully (to borrow from descriptions of the indian cricket team). he should get his opportunity - it's unfair that he is discounted as australian champion by virtue of a single course being used in perpetuity, that favours one type of rider over another.

Was thinking about this today. The Aus road champs should be moved around the country each year. Different type of course each year, etc.

I think where the problem lies today with the one course being used for X number of years is....it's become a business venture for the bidding State or
what ever the process is called now.

collar bone :( :( :(

edit: x-rays confirmed no broken bones :D but "A decision on whether Bobridge rides the TDU will not be made until after more scans today"

maybe now they'll close the course to traffic in future !

from mick:

"Unfortunately I was held up with some traffic; unfortunately the roads weren't closed so I don't know how much I lost there – maybe 10, 15 seconds so that's the way it is."

One of the pre-race favourites, Jack Bobridge (GreenEdge), crashed within the first kilometre of the race heading along the Sunraysia Highway after he fell heavily after being passed by a truck on the partially open course. Bobridge was taken to hospital with a haematoma on his left arm however no fractures were suspected.
Wow, I can't believe the National Road Championships would be run so amateurish.
