Australian Road Champs

Postby RICHARDH » Sat Dec 10, 2011 4:05 pm

Just over a month away now, going to be a very interesting race with Greenedge obviously going out to get one of there riders in the National Champs jersey. You would be thinking they would bring it all together for a bunch sprint for Gossy but getting someone in a break wouldn't be a bad idea as very few would want to lead the chase with them waiting in the wings. TT should also be interesting with Porte, and Rogers, Meyer, Bobridge and co.

i reckon buninyong is too hilly for the sprinters and that the pro tour guys will be underdone at this time of year. i'm voting for pat shaw, just to be different. i assume he's going to be there..

A fit, inform O'Grady would be a pretty difficult to beat this has got to be one of the more exciting Nationals in awhile.

Porte or Cam Meyer could take out the double (RR and TT).

Porte and O'grady are already in Adelaide :D

Giacoppo too good for Renshaw in Australian Criterium Championship

Anthony Giacoppo (centre) from Western Australia upstaged a crack field to win the National Men's Elite Criterium Championship in Ballarat.

Giacoppo (Genesys Wealth Advisers) has continued his run of form from the Jayco Bay Series Cycling Classic to win the Australian Criterium title in Ballarat on Thursday evening. Mark Renshaw (Rabobank) was second in the bunch sprint with the field coming together on the final corner, with Steele Von Hoff (Chipotle Development Team) third.

Wollongong's Scott Law has claimed his first major Australian road title, the under 23 Australian Criterium Championship, the opening event of the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships at Ballarat.

Law, national omnium and scratch race champion prevailed over Jayco-AIS representative Jay McCarthy and defending champion, Tasmania's Ben Grenda. Jayco-HoneyShotz rider Mitchell Lovelock-Fay took out the Sprint Championship.

Going out on a limb and tipping O'Grady to win today. Should be a great race.

Anyone read or know where Cam Meyer ended up or whether he finished, would have been great to see him at the end after the work he did by himself

Don't know if they specifically said he pulled out, but he basically stopped when he popped. Highly doubt he finished. Was pretty confident gerro had the best shot with once Cam blew up, and thought he had it in the bag when sutton couldnt hold on. As Richie Porte said, that would have to be the slowest sprint for 2nd in the history of the nationals

Great race all up, the sky boys looked in with a chance for a bit there.

Great race, and a good telecast by SBS.
Channel 9 will have to do a lot to show it can do it better than SBS at the TDU.
Good crowd watching around the course also. A few years ago it would have been a few family and friends and thats it.

A couple of Twitter quotes...
@mickrogers I would personally like 2 thank the member of the VIC Police that called me a stupid f@#king bike rider after the finish. Silly constable
@mickrogers Considering Mr Constable was probably paid a considerable sum of $ by CA and John Craven to protect the race/riders! Not acceptable!
@Mark_Renshaw So I still stand by my comments. Cycling Aus and John Craven change the bloody course! With the riders Aus have now we deserve variation?

Cam Meyer for the tt win after watching him in the road race before he bonked. Or Luke Durbridge? Wish it was live, this is the more interesting race for me.

Taryn Heather for the women's tt she has been working hard and is a machine 8)
