Seriously though I'll be happy to grin and bear him if it means the major networks NEVER get their hands on the TDF. Besides, his segment gives you the chance to make a cuppa :P

Nine has a page called Live streaming - Santos Tour Down Under which promises "Online highlights stream on ninemsn from 7.00pm AEDT (approx)".

I'd rather not be tired at work, I need to be able function.

Even if SBS do persist with Gab on the tdf they are a champion cycling broadcaster and have the cycling fans needs far higher up their priority list than any commercial network. SBS did well with the TDU broadcast last year (and awesome with the TDF coverage :D :D ) at more reasonable hours.

Apparently a Belgian lotto rider hit an elderly pedestrian and came off worse and he is now in hospital. Thanks C9 with your 30-second news bite of the TdU.

What I love about the TDF is the festival atmosphere...no tractors forming bikes in the TdU.

Boo to you all Gabriel Gate haters. He is a wonderful aperitif to the main event. GG haters have no taste.

I can understand where CH9 execs are coming from, why put the TDU on live at 11am when Murder She Wrote is on GEM??
If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough.

How do you cope during the 3 weeks of the TDF then
Totally inappopriate comparison.

Last year, I happily stayed up fo the late night coverge of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, and the TdF. This was for LIVE coverage of 3 of the best cycling events on the World Tour.

You then compare that with an hour or so of highlights, at the same late hour, of a 2nd-tier event. An event where we have all seen the results and analysis for many hours prior.

They cant even get the live feed right!

"Please bear with us, the highlights are being fed through from Clare in segments."

What a load of rubbish... as if... what a crock

http://wwos.ninemsn.com.au/livestreamin ... id=8403278

should be able to use that link throughout the race

If that doesn't play for you, try pointing your media player at mms://news.netshow.ninemsn.com.au/9MSNLive which should work. Works fine with VLC.

"Due to the later than expected finish of Stage 1 today there will be a delay of about 15 minutes before the final segment of the show is played through."

And this is the 'live highlights' being 'broadcast to the world'. It's like Skippy took over the edit suite.

edit: final instalment has arrived by pigeon.

Was the 2 minute video with no commentary the best they could muster? Or was there a better highlight package elsewhere?

Skippy the cyclist!

Love the two men + kid having a bubble bath.

Rest of Oz is missing out on how great this sport is and the conviviality it brings out in the locals.

Don't like the new Saxo colours.

They certainly have devoted the A team and big resources to TDU coverage. They were running a red banner last night on the wwos landing page, linking to a pop-up version of the instalment format 'international broadcast highlights'. It was the text under the highlights that advised refresh when it goes black, logo means they're waiting for the next bit, and a late addition that the last segment would be along in a while cos the race finished late. Amazing that this channel can get the cricket to air at all. I couldn't find the highlights at all initially last night, so the red link was probably late going up, and it has now disappeared, together with the instalments.

The two-minute ambient sound version seems to be the link from the wwos landing page, but there is a 5 minute one, with audio  buried in the right-hand panel of the cycling page.

In the same panel, if you're up for a giggle, don't miss the Voss interview with the Croc Man where Voss says, 'Plenty of people were blown away by the speeds that you guys hit on the last lap. Did you think that was possible?' Imagine Europe getting C9 cycling highlights; hard to know whether to laugh or cringe. Perhaps we could have Warne as guest commentator with Phil and Paul.

I think it's pretty obvious now that channel 9 bought the TDU rights NOT because they love cycling, but to stop SBS broadcasting it so they don't lose viewers. I wonder how that will work for them?

That could be true, but also how about the actual TDU organisers who sold CH9 the rights,

That definitely made me cringe. I am angry that we have to listen to inane questions and commentary from a bloke who clearly has done no research at all on his subject matter. He then went on to ask where were all the Australian sprinters at the finish. Doesn't make the viewing experience that pleasant when you have sat up 'til midnight to watch it and had to filter out what seems almost 50% ad content
