did you hear the story recounted by scott mcgrory last night? apparently he was whinging to someone about how bad he was feeling, when his teammate, whose wheel he was holding, turned around and demanded to know what he was working for then?

good to see andy on the comeback, i must say.

LBL is a long hard race, this does appear to be a step in the right direction....

I certainly hope so. AS in the mix at the Tour ups the entertainment value.

I bet Thor is happy that Andy's lack of results is getting this much attention.

Abandonandy has exceeded all expectations - he finished the stage, in 29th position and ONLY lost 9:22 on the stage. Sadly though he did finish behind noted climbers such as Baden Cooke

I watched that final climb last night, and in fairness, it looked pretty damned hard.

But still ....

In the break today, active on stage 1, good to see him racing and not just riding.

He did lose 9mins on that climb
However yesterday he looked good in the break

Climbers don't lose 9 minutes on a climb. He's still far from in form. I'm not sure he can get it together before the TdF.

I watched the Stage 2 highlights and remember Palm Springs being so hot it was a struggle to walk from the car to buildings. And there they were climbing 7km with a 22 degree gradient pinch in 46 degree heat!

Andy is plodding away, and even making it in the break again today.

Finished 48th on the days Stage 7, some 6:14 down on the winner, but that's still pretty average, when 41 year old Jens Voight who weighs twice as much, is almost double his age finishes 4 minutes quicker than you. UP A MOUNTAIN CLIMB !!!!!

And he's won a stage.

Oh well, At least he finished in 30th place in the ITT, losing only 3:350 something ...

Well, another race finished with some signs of form shown.

But still, getting out climbed by a 41 yo non climber is a bit telling about the level of effort ...

Fair enough, he's only coming back from a fractured pelvis

That was a while ago, and Gesink is coming back from a fractured femur & is doing heaps better. Stuey o'Grady has had many more multiple injury incidents including fractured vertebra, but rode better & quicker after those incidents.

There is no doubt that it's a serious injury, but it was only a hairline fracture, and not displaced. Meh, I can't ride like him (or even close it to for that matter) even when he rides poorly, but I can still make fun of him :D

You make some good points.

I don't know how Freckle does it. I really hope Andy makes it back to 2010/11 levels but it aint looking good for him at the minute. Still, he is pretty talented.

Can Abandonandy make it three in a row ?

He was at least not last at ToC, and made some effort, but was still outshone by a 41 year old father of six.

You would have to think that unless he really challenged for a podium or won a stage convincingly, why take him to France ...

What are the odds ..... :?:

A bit sad for fans to see Andy struggling to get back after his pelvic fracture. For a comparable recovery, how long have others taken to come back after a major crash? O'Grady had a nasty one but not sure what exactly he had. Of course, there are pelvic fractures and pelvic fractures, each can be different.

One stage down in the TdS - 134th at 1:06 on a short time trial ......

And an Aussie on top :D

Seems that Andy's form isn't getting any better. losing 3:32 in less than 6km on the last climb, and finishing in 54th position on the stage.

You would have to ask as team management, what is the point of taking him to the tour ?

It's all part of Andy's plan so that when they sack Frank, the team will be keen to let him go as well :)
