Riding Lago d'Iseo

Postby the-waves » Tue Apr 30, 2013 10:51 am

Hi all,

I am headed off to Italy in June July and will be spending a weeks at Lago d'Iseo. I am keen to do some riding while I am there and would really appreciate any feedback around the following:

Any good riding events here at this time of year?

A good touring company that operates in the area

A good bike hire company that operates in the area

Has anyone else on this site ridden it that area?

Haven't ridden at Lago d'Iseo. But according to Google maps, it is only 1 1/2 hours drive from Ponte di Lego (South ascent of the Passo del Gavia) and two and change from Bormio (Passo della Stelvio sth, Passo de Gavia nth and the Mortirolo).

Had the good fortune to ride around Bormio last year. Details

Nice!

What kind of training were you doing for the Stelvio?

To be honest the specific hill training was minimal unlike the year prior when I spent a month in the French Alps. I was still training and racing, but as the quick side trip to Bormio was a last minute decision I did no hills prior!

As most of this trip wasn't riding, I hired a bike in Bormio and Bormio Bike and Ski. It was a Coppi carbon bike with Ultegra or Dura ace, compact cranks and a large cassette.

Other areas to consider is around lake Como where a few hire companies look to be located -

The Dolomites also looks amazing, but a way east from Lago d'Iseo.
