Wiggins knighthood is a great example of why you don't give the honours quickly. He's been a terrible ambassador for the Empire outside that magic few months.

You could look at solely the shoes and have a good guess... Or that poxy Mod symbol on the fore of his helmet and over his laces. Or that tattoo poking out from under his jersey arm and on his hand. Or even that newly embraced beard that he seems keen to rock these days.

I dont know why I expected different, and as they say everyone is different and fits things differently - but does anyone else find it interesting that they are all wearing completely different shoes?

Not defending him, and certainly not picking a fight, especially as you sold me that very nice trainer but for once I don't think this was one of those quickie knighthoods, rather the magic few months were actually the icing on the cake:

Since 1998 between Olympic, world and commonwealth games he managed to amass (I think) 10 Gold, 10 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

However, probably no medals in the personality stakes

Wiggo had mutliple track olympic golds and world championships. He came through the British system at about the same time as Cav and they rode lots of 6 Day events together and were world champion madison riders in 2008. Geraint Thomas was another rider who went through the British system at the same time and rode pursuits with Wiggo and Cav.

British cycling was a factory for a long time and they produced the best cyclists in the world. It doesn't seem to have held based on these Commonwealth games results.

Not to mention he beat Cavendish (albeit narrowly) for 20 gold medals in the IA.

But he's obviously much more famous and recognisable than Sir Chris Hoy, who was denied entry into the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

It must have been a pleasure (and a relief) to the ASO and sponsors to have gracious gentlemen riders on the TdF podium once again...

Your right... It isn't. But why does he have to do it?
No one else on the team has it (or a flag on their helmet / shoes, or anything else than standard team issue kit, for that matter).
I thought it was a Team pursuit... Not an individual one.

He has them plastered all over his road bikes too. In the paintwork and on the headseat cover. On the arm of his Sky Team jersey etc.
Perhaps he is just trying to create a bit of a 'brand', but I just dont really understand it.

How could I forget about his Aussie father... The one that was never there for him. Seemed like a real good bloke!

I don't mind a bit of individuality myself, even within a team. It seems to work for Wiggo, anyway.

I'm sure he regards himself as British, irrespective of his birthplace, though that may explain his liking for the spring/cobbled classics.

Born in Belgium, British Mother, Australian father probably doesn't qualify him to be Belgian (it wouldn't in Australia). His father left them when he was two and he and his mother moved to England. I'm sure he feels English - supported Arsenal as a kid but we won't hold that against him

This is like one of those public toilet urinal problem... I think the rider second on the right was the one who fouled the etiquette. He should have sat to the left of the photo with one empty seat b/n him and Wiggo.
